Weekly Journal Reflection
(To be filled in by the student weekly)
Date: January 27 - 31
Tasks Completed:
This week marked my first hands-on teaching experience at Ceriaco A. Abes
Memorial National High School. I arrived at school early each day to prepare
my lessons and set up instructional materials. My tasks included organizing
presentations, testing equipment, and attaching visuals to the board to
ensure the classroom was ready for learning. I also conducted lessons and
facilitated engaging activities for my science classes in Grade 7-SSC and
Grade 8-Diamond.
Skills Applied:
I applied various skills, including classroom preparation, instructional
delivery, and student engagement techniques. Effective communication and
adaptability were crucial as I navigated through different class dynamics and
time constraints. I also incorporated motivational games like Squid Game
Series, Swipe Left and Right, and Paradise Island, which kept the students
actively engaged.
New Skills Learned:
One significant new skill I developed was the ability to design student-
centered learning activities that catered to diverse learning preferences. I
learned how to manage time effectively during games and seamlessly
transition to lesson discussions to maintain student focus.
Challenges Encountered:
A challenge I encountered was managing my voice throughout the sessions.
Speaking for long periods strained my vocal cords, and I had to regularly
drink water to sustain my energy. Recognizing this as an essential aspect of
teaching, I made mental notes to practice voice modulation and take better
care of my vocal health.
Reflection on Personal Growth:
This week was a major step in my professional growth. Experiencing the
realities of teaching, from lesson preparation to classroom management,
deepened my appreciation for the profession. The enthusiasm of my students
and the successful execution of student-centered activities reinforced my
belief in the power of interactive teaching.
Next Steps/Goals for Improvement:
Moving forward, my primary goals are to improve voice endurance, develop
more creative teaching strategies, and refine my time management skills
during lessons. I look forward to building on this week's experiences and
continuing to grow as an educator.
