Tasks Completed:
This week marked the start of my deployment as a student teacher at
Ceriaco A. Abes Memorial National High School. The primary tasks involved
meeting the school principal, getting introduced to cooperating teachers, and
familiarizing myself with my assigned classes—Grade 7-SSC and Grade 8-
Diamond. I observed classroom sessions and took note of student behavior,
classroom dynamics, and effective teaching techniques. Additionally, I
collaborated with my cooperating teacher to plan lessons for the following
week.
Skills Applied:
Throughout the week, I applied various skills, including time management,
classroom observation, and effective communication with both students and
fellow teachers. Active listening was essential as I gathered insights from my
cooperating teacher and observed teaching strategies that kept students
engaged.
New Skills Learned:
One valuable skill I developed was identifying students' varying engagement
levels and understanding the subtle cues that indicate when a class is losing
focus. This observation skill will be crucial when I design lessons to maintain
student interest and promote active learning.
Challenges Encountered:
One challenge I encountered was adjusting to the structured school
environment and classroom setup. I quickly realized the importance of being
prepared and adaptable to manage unexpected events, such as extended
flag ceremonies. I addressed this by using the extra observation time to
better understand the school's routines
Reflection on Personal Growth:
Reflecting on this week, I am grateful for the insights I gained about the
teaching profession. Witnessing the dedication of teachers and the eagerness
of students further fueled my passion for teaching. These experiences
pushed me to think more creatively about lesson delivery and classroom
engagement strategies.
Next Steps/Goals for Improvement:
My primary goal for next week is to execute well-planned lessons that foster
active student participation. I also aim to explore more creative ways to
motivate students and further develop my classroom management skills.
With a positive outlook and a commitment to growth, I look forward to the
exciting journey ahead.
