Class 10th Assignment

Chapter 07 : Triangles
1. Show that if a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle to intersect the
other two sides in distinct points, the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.
2. Show that if a line divides any two sides of a triangle in the same ratio, then the
line is parallel to the third side.
3. In figure, PS/SQ = PT/TR and ∠ PST = ∠ PRQ. Prove that PQR is an isosceles
triangle.

4. In figure, if LM || CB and LN || CD, prove that AM/AB = AN/AD.

5. In figure, DE || OQ and DF || OR. Show that EF || QR.

6. In figure, A, B and C are points on OP, OQ and OR respectively such that AB ||

PQ and AC || PR. Show that BC || QR.

7. ABCD is a trapezium in which AB || DC and its diagonals intersect each other

at the point O. Show that AO / BO = CO / DO.
8. The diagonals of a quadrilateral ABCD intersect each other at the point O such
that AO / BO = CO / DO. Show that ABCD is a trapezium.

9. A girl of height 90 cm is walking away from the base of a lamp-post at a speed

of 1.2 m/s. If the lamp is 3.6 m above the ground, find the length of her shadow
after 4 seconds.

10. In figure, CM and RN are respectively the medians of ∆ ABC and ∆ PQR. If
∆ ABC ~ ∆ PQR,
prove that :
(i) ∆ AMC ~ ∆ PNR
(ii) CM / RN = AB / PQ
(iii) ∆ CMB ~ ∆ RNQ
11. In figure, QR / QS = QT / PR and ∠ 1 = ∠ 2. Show that ∆ PQS ~ ∆ TQR.

12. In figure, if ∆ ABE ≅ ∆ ACD, show that ∆ ADE ~ ∆ ABC.

13. E is a point on the side AD produced of a parallelogram ABCD and BE

intersects CD at F. Show that ∆ ABE ~ ∆ CFB.

14. In figure, ABC and AMP are two right triangles, right angled at B and M
respectively. Prove that:
(i) ∆ABC ~ ∆AMP
(ii) CA / PA = BC / MP

15. CD and GH are respectively the bisectors of ∠ACB and ∠ EGF such that D
and H lie on sides AB and FE of ∆ ABC and ∆ EFG respectively. If ∆ABC ~ ∆
FEG, show that:
(i) CD / GH = AC / FG
(ii) ∆ DCB ~ ∆ HGE
(iii) ∆ DCA ~ ∆ HGF
16. In figure, E is a point on side CB produced of an isosceles triangle ABC with
AB = AC. If AD ⊥ BC and EF ⊥ AC, prove that ∆ABD ~ ∆ECF.

17. D is a point on the side BC of a triangle ABC such that ∠ADC = ∠ BAC.
Show that CA2 = CB x CD.

18. A vertical pole of length 6 m casts a shadow 4 m long on the ground and at
the same time a tower casts a shadow 28 m long. Find the height of the tower.

19. If AD and PM are medians of triangles ABC and PQR, respectively where ∆
ABC ~ ∆ PQR, prove that AB / PQ = AD / PM

20. ABCD is a trapezium with AB || DC. E and F are points on non-parallel sides
AD and BC respectively such that EF is parallel to AB. Show that AE / ED = BF /
FC.

21. Hypotenuse of a right triangle is 25 cm and out of the remaining two sides,
one is longer than the other by 5 cm. Find the lengths of the other two sides.
22. In the given figure, in ∆ABC, DE|| BC so that AD = (4x - 3) cm, AE = (8x - 7)
cm , BD = (3x - 1) cm and CE = (5x - 3) cm. Find the value of x.
23. Prove that the internal bisector of an angle of a triangle divides the opposite
side internally in the ratio of the sides containing the angle.
24. In the given figure, AD is the bisector of BAC. If AB = 10 cm, AC = 6 cm
and BC = 12 cm, find BD and DC.

the ratio of their corresponding sides.
26. The perimeters of two similar triangles are 25 cm and 15 cm respectively. If
one side of the first triangle is 9 cm, find the corresponding side of the second
triangle.
27. In the given figure PA, QB and RC each is perpendicular to AC such that PA
= x, RC = y, QB = z, AB = a and BC = b. Prove that 1/x + 1/y = 1/z.
28. A lamp is 5 cm above the ground. A boy 100 cm tall walks away from the
base of this lamp post at a speed of 1.9 m/sec. Find the length of the shadow of
the boy after 4 seconds.
