Full Marks : 45
1. Draw the impedance diagram for the power system shown in Figure1 below. Mark impedances are in
per unit. Neglect resistance and use a base of 50,000kVA, 138kV in the 40-ohm line. The rating of
generator, motor and transformer are:
Generator 1: 20,000 kVA,13.2kV,X"=15%
Generator 2: 20,000 kVA,13.2kV,X"=15%
Synchronous Motor 3: 30,000kVA,6.9kV, X"=20%
Three phase Y-Y Transformers: 20,000 kVA,13.8Y-138Y kV, X=10%
Three phase Y-∆ Transformers: 15,000 kVA,6.9∆-138Y kV, X=10%
All transformers are connected to step up the voltage of the generators to the transmission line voltages.

3. A 3 bus system is given in [Link] ratings of various components are listed below.
G1: 50MVA, 13.8kV, X=0.15p.u
G2: 40MVA, 13.2kV, X=0.2p.u
G3: 30MVA, 11kV, X=0.25p.u
T1: 45MVA, 11kV/110kV, X=0.1p.u
T2: 25MVA,12.5kV/115kV, X=0.15p.u
T3: 40MVA,12.5kV/115kV, X=0.1p.u
The line impedances are shown in figure 3. Determine the reactance diagram based on 50 MVA and
13.8kV as base quantities in Generator 1.
4. A 100 MVA 33 kV 3-phase generator has sub transient reactance of 15%.The generator is connected to
the motors through a transmission line and transforms as shown in Figure [Link] motors have rated
inputs of 30MVA,20MVA and 50MVA at 30 kV with 20% sub transient reactance. The 3-phase
transformers are rated at 110MVA,32kV∆/110kVY with leakage reactance 8%.The line has a reactance
50 ohms. Selecting the generator rating as the base quantities in the generator circuit, determine the
base quantities in other parts of the system and evaluate the corresponding p.u. values.
Figure 4
5. The one-line diagram of an unloaded power system is shown Figure 5 below
Reactance of the two sections of transmission line are shown in the diagram. The generators and
transformers are rated as follows:
Generator 1: 20MVA, 13.8kV, X"=0.2 p.u
Generator 2: 30MVA, 18kV, X"=0.2 p.u
Generator 3: 30MVA, 20kV, X"=0.2 p.u
Transformer 1: 25MVA, 220Y/13.8∆kV, X=10%
Transformer 2:single phase units each rated 10MVA,127/18 kV, X=10%
Transformer 3: 35MVA,220Y/22YkV, X=10%
Draw the reactance diagram with all reactance marked in per unit and with letters to indicate points
corresponding to the one-line diagram. Choose a base of 50 MVA, 13.8kV in the circuit of generator 1.

2. A 3-Φ, 3-wire system consisting of 12.5cm diameter conductors spaced 3 meters apart in a horizontal
plane supplies a balanced load. Calculate the inductance per km of each conductors (line to neutral).
What will be the average inductance of each phase if conductors were regularly transposed.
4. Determine the inductance of a single phase transmission line consisting of three conductors of 2.5 mm
radii in the 'go' conductor and 5mm radii in the return [Link] configuration of line is as shown
in Figure 3.

5. The three conductors of a 3-phase,3-wire line are arranged at the corners of a triangle, the sides of
which are 1m,1.3m and [Link] the inductance and capacitance per km of the line, when the
conductors are transposed. The conductors are 1.5cm diameter.
6. Six conductors of a double circuit transmission line are arranged as shown in Figure-4 below .The
diameter of each conductor is [Link] the capacitive reactance to neutral and the charging current
per km per phase at 132kV and 50Hz assuming that the line is regularly transposed. Neglect the effect
