Grade 8 Geometry Study Notes

The document provides essential geometry concepts for Grade 8 mathematics, covering angles, triangles, quadrilaterals, Pythagoras' theorem, perimeter, area, and circles. Key formulas and properties are outlined, such as the sum of angles in various shapes and the calculations for perimeter and area. It also includes methods for finding the area of irregular shapes by breaking them down into simpler geometric figures.

GRADE 8 MATHEMATICS – CLEAN STUDY NOTES 1.

GEOMETRY OF STRAIGHT LINES • Angles

on a straight line = 180°. • Adjacent angles form a straight line → supplementary (180°). • Angles
around a point = 360°. • Vertically opposite angles are equal. • In parallel lines cut by a transversal: –
Alternate angles are equal. – Corresponding angles are equal. – Co-interior angles sum to 180°. 2.
TRIANGLES • Interior angles of a triangle = 180°. • Exterior angle = sum of the two opposite interior
angles. • Isosceles triangle: equal sides → equal angles. 3. QUADRILATERALS • Interior angles of
quadrilaterals = 360°. • Parallelogram: – Opposite sides are parallel and equal. – Opposite angles are
equal. 4. PYTHAGORAS' THEOREM For right-angled triangles: a² + b² = c² (c is the hypotenuse). 5.
PERIMETER • Perimeter = total distance around a shape. • Rectangle: 2(l + b) • Square: 4 × side 6.
AREA • Rectangle = l × b • Square = s² • Triangle = ½ × base × height • Parallelogram = base × height
7. CIRCLES • Circumference: C = 2πr • Area: A = πr² 8. IRREGULAR SHAPES Break shape into
rectangles/triangles → find areas → add.
