CONSERVATION PRINCIPLES

🔥🔥😌 🌝🌝
Good evening guyssss
Let's fire Can I get some reactions
🌝
Alright guysss
What did we do in our last class
+234 901 491 6923:Projectiles
+234 814 131 8335: Projectiles
+234 703 331 9172:Projectile.
This time you people must remind me
Lovely so what did we say projectiles are
+234 901 491 6923:They are objects allowed to move freely on
their own when fired into space
+234 707 637 0972: It is an object or particle launched into the
air and allowed to move under the influence of gravity
😌
Y'all are correct
Without wasting much time let's move to Today's topic
Conservation principles in physics
Now under this topic we'll look at:
* conservative force /examples
* Non-conservative force
* Linear momentum
* Conservation of mechanical energy
🔥😌
* Work energy and power
I hope we are ready
Conservative Forces
So who can define conservation?
+234 707 637 0972: It can be seen as something that is being
preserved
Nice
+234 814 131 8335: The principal by which the total value of a
physical quantity remains constant in a system with no subject to
an external force
+234 901 491 6923:Something is not lost but changes form
So conservation simply means preservation.
In this topic we'll look at how quantities like force, etc are
preserved
Consider the diagram below
Let a and b in this diagram be two points, the initial and final
destination of a moving body.
Are we following?
Now a force is necessary to move the object from point a to b
along the two paths 1 and 2
Pls call my attention immediately if you get lost. Do we
understand this?
Okay...
There are two conditions that determine if a day force is
conservative or non conservative.
And they can be gotten from this diagram
The first condition is
1. The work done by the force in moving a body from point a
to point b along path 1 must be equal to the work done in
moving the body from point a to b along path 2
Do we get it?
So the work done by a conservative force is independent of the
path taken by the force.
It also means that the work done by a conservative force in
moving a body in one direction, is equal to the work done by
that same force in moving the body in another direction or path
Do we get it?
It's given as
Where Wab( path 1) is the work done in moving a body from
point a to b along path 1 and Wab ( path2) is the work done in
moving a body from point a to point b along path 2.
🌝
Are we following?
Should I proceed to the second condition?
Itz Buroma: Yes sir.
If you don't understand don't keep mute
Next condition
[Link] work done by the force in moving the body from point
a to point b along path 1 must be equal to the negative of the
work done by the force in moving a body from point b to a along
path 2.
Hence the net work done by the force in moving a body along a
🌝 😊
round path must be zero
Do we get it? Alright
So in simple terms
A force is said to be conservative if:
1. The work done by the force in moving a body from one
point to the other is independent of the path taken
2. The net work done by the force in moving a body along a
round path is zero
Now that can be illustrated with the equation
Do we understand?
It's just the same I explained
Now examples of conservative force include : gravitational
force, magnetic force, etc
I hope we get it
So any force that obeys the above is a conservative force
Non- conservative force
This is just the reverse of what we stated earlier
This forces do not obey the two criteria for a force to be
conservative
Consider the diagram
Now one typical example of a non conservative force is friction
Now considering this diagram
If the book is to be pushed along the table from a to be along
path 1, the work done generated will not be equal to the that
produced when the book Is moved from a to be along path 2
This is because the friction force depends on the path taken
Remember that friction opposes the relative motion between
two bodies and depends on the path taken by the body.
And since it depends on the path
It cannot be called a conservative force.
Hence a non-conservative force
Do we understand?
+234 707 637 0972: Yes sir
Now this is the equation format
Do we all understand?
Alright.
Now the next condition for a force to be non- conservative is...
The work done by the force in moving the body from point a
to point b along path 2 is not equal to the negative work done by
the force in moving that same body from point a to point b along
path 1
i.e the net work done by the force in moving a body around a
circular or round path is more zero
Pls do we understand?
+234 707 637 0972: Yes sir
Now let me drop the equation format for this
🥱
So this is it
Do we all understand?
So who can state law of conservation of linear momentum so
we can close
+234 906 697 7732: The total momentum of a body in an
isolated system is constant
Lovely
Itz Buroma: When no external force act on a system of
interacting bodies, the total linear momentum of the system
remains constant.
🤭
Lovely
See y'all on Monday
