Introduction to Econometrics Concepts

Chapter 1 of ECO 344 - Applied Econometrics I introduces econometrics as a field that develops statistical methods for estimating economic relationships and testing theories. It covers the types of data used in econometric analysis, including experimental and non-experimental data, as well as various data structures like cross-sectional, time series, pooled cross-section, and panel data. The chapter also discusses empirical analysis steps, randomness in data, and the importance of causal inference in economic research.

Empirical Analysis

Salman (IBA) Chapter 1 9 / 23

Empirical Economic Analysis

An empirical economic analysis use data to test a theory or estimate a

relationship.

The first step in any empirical analysis is to carefully formulate the

question of the interest.

In your final paper, you will follow all these five steps and hopefully have
something worthy to pursue in future.

question of the interest.
Second step is to construct a formal economic model.
