1. Find the Supremum and Infimum of the following sets.
(A) { m 4n
n + m | m, n ∈ N}
1
(B) {x + x | x > 0}
1
(C) {(−1)n + n | n ∈ N}
m
(D) { m+n | m, n ∈ N}
a+b
2. Let a, b ∈ R and a < b then a < 2 < b.
3. Prove that for any a, b ∈ R this inequality hold ||a| − |b|| ≤ |a − b|.
4. Check whether the following functions are bounded or unbounded.
(A) f (x) = x2 − x, D = [0, 1].
(B)f (x) = x1 , D = (0, 1).
5. Check whether the functions are convex and concave?
(A) f (x) = |x|, x∈R
(B) f (x) = −x2 , x∈R
n
6. By using ϵ − N definition prove that sequence {an }, where an = n+1 , converges to 1.
(−1)n
7. By using ϵ − N definition prove that sequence {an }, where an = 1 + n , converges to 1.
8. If {xn } is a convergent sequence in R, what can be said about the convergence of {|xn |} in R?
