I am sure by now you all have a slight insight about the topic that we are going to talk about so
where should we start from? Oh well we still have to tell you about the steps involved in design
thinking and how do we go about it so without a further ado, let’s begin!
What you need to know is Design thinking is more than just a
process; it opens up an entirely new way to think. It
Proves to be extremely useful when you wish tackle
problems that are either ill-defined or unknown.
It Involves ongoing experimentation through sketches,
prototypes, testing and trials of new concepts and ideas.
Let’s get to step no.1
Empathize
in the world of design thinking, empathy is a “deep
understanding of the problems and realities of people you are
designing for.” Heavy words right? In layman’s language,
Empathy is our ability to see the world through other
people's eyes — to see what they see, feel what they feel and
experience things as they do.
Next up
Define
This is the stage where you State Your Users' Needs and
Problems.
You accumulate the information gathered during the
Empathize stage, analyze it where this stage guarentees you an
insightful and a fruitful understanding of your project goals
thus making it convenient for you to find an apt solution for
your problems
Next up
Ideate
This is the stage where all participants open mindedly generate
new ideas, modify the old one’s and start thinking outside the
box. They put all their innovative and creative skills to work.
Brainstorming is particularly useful here.
Next up
Prototype
It comprises of a rough sketch but hey don’t judge it too
quickly because ultimately, this rough sketch formulates the
basic and the foundational structure of your project taking into
consideration if it is working just as you expected or not and
providing the intended experience to the users.
Last but not the least
Testing
As the name suggests…testing is all about regular checking
and evaluation of the project on regular intervals but donot get
it mistaken as the last stage. What I mean to say is that the
whole process could be an infinite loop where there are no
loose ends.
Moving on I would like to throw some light and highlight the
unimaginable amount of success received by a company that
went from opening it’s first timely store across the street to
now owning hundreds and thousands of franchises all over

And if you go on asking me the reason behind it well….2 words
“Design” “Thinking”
As you can see…the company realized the need of the hour by
conducting non-stop surveys and listening to the grievances of
customers…they made slight modifications according to the will
of the people such as introducing a sleek design and focusing
on the quality of the condiments which later on brought a
revolutionary change in the history of this company and thus
gave birth to the starbucks we know today.
Lastly, I would like to mention about the difference between
traditional thinking and design thinking….just incase you are
wondering, traditional thinking works towards avoiding failure,
thinking , planning, creating a passive experience and
preferably giving the right answers whereas design thinking
helps us systematically extract, teach, learn and apply these
human-centered techniques to solve problems in a creative
and an innovative manner.
