Section A – Very Short Answer / Objective Type (1 mark each)
1. If p(x) = x² - 5x + 6, what is p(2)?
2. Solve (2x - 3)/4 = 5.
3. A fair coin is tossed once. What is the probability of getting head?
4. In a triangle, if one angle is 90° and another is 45°, find the third angle.
5. Name the compass construction that helps in drawing a perpendicular bisector of a line segment.
6. Two lines are parallel; if one is horizontal, what is the orientation of the other?
7. If x = 3 is a root of x² + kx - 12 = 0, find k.
8. If you toss two dice, what is the probability the sum is 7?
9. The angle between two intersecting lines is 120°. What is its vertically opposite angle?
10. Construct an angle of 60° using compass and straightedge; how many arcs do you draw from
the vertex?
Section B – Short Answer (2 marks each)
11. Factorise the polynomial x² - 16.
12. Solve for x: 3(x - 2) = 2x + 4.
13. A bag contains 5 red, 3 blue, and 2 green balls. One ball is drawn at random. What is the
probability it is not blue?
14. Draw two lines and show that they are parallel using alternate interior angles.
15. In ∆ABC, ∠A = 50°, ∠B = 60°. Find ∠C.
16. If the linear equation ax + b = 0 has no solution, what condition holds on a, b?
17. Using compass, construct the perpendicular from a point outside a given line.
18. If a polynomial 2x² - 7x + 3 is divided by x - 3, find the remainder.
19. From a class of 40 students, 10 play cricket, 15 play football, 5 play both. If one student is
chosen at random, what is the probability he plays at least one sport?
20. In two parallel lines cut by a transversal, if one corresponding angle is 110°, find the other
corresponding angle.
Section C – Long Answer (4 marks each)
21. Solve the system: 2x + 3 = y and x - 2y = 4.
22. A bag has 7 white and 3 black balls. Two balls are drawn one by one without replacement. Find
the probability both are white.
23. Construct a triangle ABC given: AB = 5 cm, ∠B = 60°, ∠C = 50°.
24. Prove that the sum of interior angles of a triangle is 180°.
25. The polynomial f(x) = x³ - 4x² + kx + 6 has x = 2 as a root. Find k. Then factorise f(x).
26. Solve: (5x - 1)/2 + (3x + 4)/3 = 7.
27. If two lines are perpendicular, what is the measure of each angle formed? Prove using
construction.
28. From 52 cards, one card is drawn. Find probability it is a king or a red card.
Section D – Higher / Application (6 marks each)
29. The polynomial x■ - 5x³ + ax² + bx - 24 leaves remainder 4 when divided by x - 2, and
remainder –3 when divided by x + 1. Find a and b.
30. A class has 30 students. Each student tosses a fair coin twice. Find the probability that a
student gets exactly one head. Then for the class, the expected number of students getting exactly
one head.
31. Using construction, divide a given angle into three equal parts (trisect) — show process and
explain whether it is generally possible for every angle.
32. The lines l■: 3x - 4y + 5 = 0 and l■: kx + 2y - 3 = 0 are parallel. Find k. Then find the distance
between these lines.
