Macbeth High – The Dagger Dilemma

Based on: Macbeth, Act 2, Scene 1 and the aftermath

Setting: A South African high school (Macbeth High), night before Student Council elections
Characters:
- Mac – Macbeth (dramatic, anxious student running for council president)
- Ladey – Male version of Lady Macbeth (ambitious, smart, and dangerously persuasive)
- Banzi – Banquo (Mac’s loyal but suspicious best friend)

Scene 1: Outside the school hall, 9 PM. Dim lighting. Mac is pacing.
MAC: Is that... a pencil I see before me? Nah bruh, not now. Handle pointing my way, like
“Here, king — go write your destiny.” You real? Or just me running on zero sleep and three
Red Bulls?

LADEY: Oi. Mac. You monologuing to ghost stationery again?

MAC: Ladey, I swear I saw a floating pencil, bro. It was *vibing*. I think I’ve officially lost the
plot.

LADEY: Nah, you haven’t lost anything — except your backbone. Come on, you know what
has to happen. Duncan’s speech? Gone. You win. We’ve planned this.

MAC: But what if we get caught? I mean... this isn’t just cheeky mischief. This is full-blown
sabotage. It's... hectic, man.

LADEY: You think great leaders waited for permission? Julius Caesar? Elon Musk? Okay, bad
example — but still. Delete the USB, get the presidency. You’ve earned it. Duncan’s just a
poster boy with a good smile and free muffins.

MAC: And you really planted his USB in the science lab?

LADEY: Left it right next to the broken Bunsen burner. You just slide in, hit delete, and
bounce. Simple. Be a king, not a coward.

MAC: Alright. Fine. For greatness. For vibes. For the free period I’ll assign myself if I win.

LADEY: That’s my guy. Go make history.

Scene 2: Minutes later. Mac returns, wild-eyed.

MAC: It’s done. Deleted. Recycle bin too. That speech is in the digital afterlife. But I dropped
my hoodie. And I tripped. There’s a skeleton on the floor now.

LADEY: You tripped over a skeleton?

MAC: Yes. Real one. Bio lab. Crashed to the ground. It was like *clunk* and now it looks like
a crime scene.
LADEY: You’re a chaos machine. But a brilliant one. Don’t worry, we’ll say it was the janitor.
Or a haunted wind.

MAC: Still... I feel weird. Like I’ve crossed into villain territory. I’m not sure I can come back.

LADEY: Bru, this school made you the villain. You’re just playing the game better than they
expected.

Scene 3: Next morning. Banzi walks in eating ghost chips.

BANZI: Mac! My guy. You hear what happened? Duncan’s USB? Gone. Dude’s panicking. He
was in the toilet mumbling “It’s over, it’s all over” like a soapie villain.

MAC: Eish. That’s... hectic. What a tragedy. Modern technology can’t be trusted, hey.

BANZI: Mmm. Funny. He swears he left it in the science lab. And security found a hoodie in
there. Black one. Just like yours.

MAC: Black hoodies are very common, bro. Like, three out of four dudes here own one.

LADEY: Yo Banzi. You on the school security team now? Got a little Sherlock Holmes
complex?

BANZI: Just asking questions. You two were acting sketchy yesterday. Whispering like you
had a side quest. Then Duncan’s speech disappears and a skeleton gets yeeted across the
lab? It’s giving... Macbeth Mysteries.

MAC: You watch too many TikToks. Not everything’s a conspiracy.

BANZI: Cool cool. Just saying. Secrets don’t stay secret forever. Especially in this school,
where everyone gossips more than they study.

LADEY: Unless people learn to keep their noses out of other people’s business. You feel me?

BANZI: I feel you. Just remember: power makes people reckless. And recklessness? That
gets noticed.

MAC: He knows. I can feel it. Banzi’s not buying it.

LADEY: Then we make sure he doesn’t have anything to find. Stay calm, king. You’ve already
come this far.

MAC: First Duncan. Now Banzi. How many ghosts does it take to win one council election?
