The line graph illustrates the changes in three categories of crime;

burglary, car theft and robbery in Newport City Centre between 2003
and 2012.

Overall, it is clear that burglary showed a sharp decline over the


period, while car theft remained stable with less fluctuations. In
contrast, robbery was consistently low and showed only slight
changes throughout the period.

In 2003, burglary was most common crime with around 3400


incidents, followed by car theft at approximately 2800 and robbery
being the least at about 600 cases. However, burglary dramatically
dropped to around 1200 by 2008 reaching its lowest point before
rising again slightly to 1500 in 2012.

Car theft on the other hand experienced some fluctuations. After a


minor decrease to about 2200 cases in 2006, the figure rose steadily
ending at roughly 2800 in 2012. Robbery remained the least common
crime with figures always ranging between 500 and 900 throughout
the period.
