SAMPLE 1
Your cousin has dropped you a short message. Read the message and give your advice in
about 80 words.
Dear cousin,
How are you getting on? I am sure you are staying at home as well. This MCO period is
rather boring but at least I am thankful that my basic needs are taken care of. I am writing this
message to ask you for any suggestions that you could give me to keep myself occupied
during these days. What do you do to kill the time? Hope to hear from you soon. Stay safe;
stay home. Bye.
Your cousin
Dear Qayyum,
How do you do? Besides feeling bored, I truly am fine. However, I have picked up a
much-procrastinated habit now; thanks to the time I have. It may sound lame but trust me, it
gets very interesting once you delve deeper. It is of course, the foremost habit: reading. I have
attached myself with a couple of interesting novels and I strongly suggest you to do the same.
At first, it may seem a little dull but as soon as you get into the novel, you will realise that
you are living in an entirely different realm in which the storyline leads you on. Besides, you
can also consider taking up writing your thoughts on daily basis. This would hone your
writing skills on the long run as well as nurture your imagination. Tell me what you think.
Till then, bye.

SAMPLE 2
You have received an email from you brother; Lucas, who’s studying abroad. Now write an
email to your brother in about 80 words.

Hi Julie!
I’ll be back in Malaysia next week. We should spend our time together. Where do you
think we should go? What activity can we do together? Which restaurant can we have
good meals? Do you have anything in mind?
Waiting for your reply. Bye!

Dear Lucas,
Of course I would like to hang out together. I think we should go to Tampin
Wildpark. It is only an hour from our house. The road that would take us there is full of lush
greeneries which could be an astounding sight to behold. It is a great place for those who love
extreme outdoor sports. We can do bungee jumping, flying fox and riding an ATV. They also
have a palatable jungle themed restaurant and the food is tantalising. It will be an exciting
experience for us. Bye!

Dear Ridzuan,
How have you been? I am very pleased to receive the invitation from you.
Unfortunately, I have to turn it down. Firstly, I am not free today as I have promised to give
my grandparents a visit. Besides, I do not do so well in parties as I am an introvert. Hence, it
will be very awkward for me and it will be very difficult for you to be of my company at all
times. I am so sorry. I would promise an outing next week perhaps. I hope you would accept
my apologies. Thanks again, bye.

Your class has been discussing on the vaccination of Covid-19 during English lesson. Your

 priority group to be vaccinated

ELEMENT PART FROM THE ANSWER

Introduction

Priority group

Benefits

Recommendation/
conclusion

There has been a constant debate on whether the vaccination is necessary or otherwise.
There are many news and information which are not reliable and most of the time, these news
travel very quickly through the social media.
However, it is the only available solution for us to curb the pandemic. The priority has
been given to the frontliners as they are the most vulnerable ones. After that, those who have
medical conditions such as diabetes or asthmatic are administered the vaccination.
There are many benefits of the vaccination. Firstly, this vaccination would boost the
antibody of the individuals who take it. Secondly, it also serves as the agent to control the
severity of the pandemic. Thirdly, the vaccine would lessen the symptoms and develop the
defense against the spreading of the virus.
I would strongly suggest that every individual has to take the vaccine so that we could do
the least we could in combatting the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jo Malone: A Pleasant Sniff of All Time

There are many benign

addictions to which one can get
accustomed to. These addictions are
alright as they are harmless. I am a
perfume addict ever since I could
remember. I love to smell good and
to get compliments over my scents.
As my birthday came by, I was
anticipating some perfumes as my
birthday gifts. To my surprise, my
parents gifted me with something
that I never had and have always
longed to have: a scent from Jo
Malone house of fragrances.

It was very thoughtful of them as I was gifted with the best seller of Jo
Malone house, which is English Pear and Freesia. It came in a neat, posh beige
coloured box with a sleek ribbon wrapped around. Unboxing the packaging was
fun. In it, a majestic 100ml bottle was laid. The bottle looked quite ordinary yet
very elegant. With simple but classy labelling, the bottle carried an elegant look.

However, what is to be sung about is its fragrance. The scent was

nothing like what I have ever had in my collection. It was not overpowering in any
sense, but it got attached to my body as a second skin which exuded a pleasant
scent. The posh smell of English pear and Freesia just wrapped me over with a
subtle fragrance all around me and it wafted through the atmosphere around me.
Wherever I go, the sillage I left behind kept people coming to me, complimenting.

Nonetheless, there are two issues that I have with this scent. Firstly, the
longevity of the perfume can be slightly disappointing as the scent does not last as
much as one would expect for the hefty price that is paid. Besides, the scent does
not make strong statement of your presence everywhere you go. It is relatively
subtle in comparison to Pure Poison by Christian Dior or Black Orchid by Tom
Ford.

To conclude, in spite of its poor longevity and the strength of its smell, I
would still rate this scent as one of the best as the scent compliments me so well.
Though it may not be recommended for a hot day out or a large crowd, it would be
a pleasant balm to your nose with a perpetual supply of the subtle English poshness
and vibrance attached to your smell buds. I would recommend this scent for those
who have a self-sufficient personality and to those who do not prioritise others’
validation more than their own self-satisfaction.

SAMPLE QUESTION:
Write a story beginning with:
There was once a poet who spent all his days shut up in his dark and shabby rented room on
top of a coffin shop.
SAMPLE ANSWER:
There was once a poet who spent all his days shut up in his dark and shabby rented
room on top of a coffin shop. He would rather have his information kept under the radar.
Quite occasionally, he would post his thoughts in the form of poetry on his blog which has
quite a steady number of readers. Most of his poems, if not all, were of very grim and gothic
genre. He relished in exhibiting himself as a rather mysterious and gothic poet, which seemed
rather easy for him to write.
The coffin shop just beneath the room that he was renting also had a mortuary
attached to the building. Occasionally, it would house corpse of those who are in need and
have nobody to tend for. There were many instances where the families of the deceased just
left the bodies there for weeks to months till they have enough money to carry out a decent
funeral. There had been once whereby a body was left for a year before his cremation was
done.
The poet would rarely go out. He is not quite seen around in the quiet town that was
nearby. The coffin shop, as one would assume, was situated on a hill, many miles away from
the town. The coffin makers would leave the coffin shop at 5pm sharp and will only be back
the next day, 9am when the sun is all well-lit. To be quite honest, no one has ever seen the
face of the poet as he remained extremely discreet about his anonymity.
One day, the thatched door of the poet’s room was knocked frantically. It is
rather sporadic for the poet to have visitors. He was not ready for a visitor. Quite anxiously,
he opened the door. The next day, the much mysterious poet’s face was published in all the
top news medias of the nation. The mystery beneath the poet’s dark and grim life was a
horror that held the entire nation in a fit of fear.
Sheila. That was ‘his’ name. The mysterious poet who was staying above the coffin
shop was a transwoman who was linked to a massive syndicate that smuggles internal organs
of dead people. The targets of the syndicate were the poor and needy whereby they lure them
by offering the deceased a home till they could do the preparation for the funeral. They have
links to many countries and this syndicate was eventually sniffed out by one of the daughters
of the deceased. She happened to be a brilliant girl who was in her 4th year in a medical
school. Upon knowing the reality and the danger she might possibly pose; Sheila killed her
and buried her in the same mortuary. The sudden missing of the trainee doctor led the police
to unveil the huge syndicate. Sheila’s fate remains in the jail while the room awaits new
tenant.
