DBMS and its Characteristics
What is DBMS
Logging into social media apps, gmail account etc – such activities are performed by accessing
information through web pages. These web pages stores a user’s entire information on a central storage
system which is termed as DBMS ( Database Management System ). DMBS is described as a
repository of information which is an organised collection of interrelated data. Information in database
can be stored as a collection of text, numbers, images, audio, video files etc. A database allows retrival
as well as modification of data for contrtolling operations.
Characterstics of DBMS
A Database Management System (DBMS) is software that manages data efficiently. Its main
characteristics are:
1. Data Structuring : Database organise data into structured form using tables that allow easy
retrival, insetion, updation and deletion of records.
2. Data integrity : Databases enforce rules to ensure the accuracy and consistency of data through
integrity constraints.
3. Data security : Database provide strong security measures like passwords etc
4. Data Redundancy Reduction : Database minimizes the data duplication by storing the data once.
Hence enchancing data integrity.
5. Scalability : Refers to a database's ability to grow and handle more work without slowing down
or breaking.
6. Recovery : Database allow the user to restore the data in case of data loss.
7. Query Processing : Database allow users to perform queries to retrieve specific data.
