SAP BASIS Complete Notes (With Inputs and Diagrams)

1. SAP BASIS Introduction

SAP BASIS provides the technical foundation for SAP applications, acting as a bridge between
operating systems, databases, and SAP business applications. It handles system installations,
configurations, user administration, performance tuning, and monitoring.

4. Basic Knowledge

• Client = Logical partition within SAP system (ex: 100, 200)


• SID = System ID (ex: DEV, QAS, PRD)
• Instance = Group of SAP processes
• Landscape = DEV → QA → PROD

5. SAP Installation
Inputs Required:

• Hostname
• SID (System ID)
• Instance Number (typically 00, 01, etc.)
• SAP Router String (for S-user systems)
• Master password
• SAP Media Location
Procedure:

1. Prepare server and OS


2. Install DB (e.g., HANA, Oracle)
3. Launch SWPM
4. Provide above inputs
5. Continue with installation wizard
6. Verify via SAP MMC and SAP GUI

6. Installation Types

• Central: All components on one host


• Distributed: DB and Application servers are separate
• HA (High Availability): Redundant components for failover

7. User Administration (SU01)

3. Choose copy profile
