Introduction:
Multiple intelligence refers to a theory describing the different ways students learn and acquire
information. These multiple intelligence range from the use of words, numbers, pictures and music, to the
importance of social interactions, introspection, physical movement and being in tune with nature.
Accordingly, an understanding of which type(s) of intelligence a student may possess can help teachers
adjust learning styles, and suggest certain career paths for learners.
Aim:
To identify the level of multiple intelligence of the subject using the multiple intelligence
questionnaire by [Link] Armstrong.
To identify the level of 8 different types of intelligence namely Verbal, Logical, Musical, Spatial,
Kinesthtic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal and Naturalistic intelligence of the subject.
Material Used:
Multiple intelligence scale by [Link] Armstrong.
Scoring Procedure:
The scoring is done using a 5 point Likert scale, that describes the exact views on the questions answered.
The scoring against the selected statement is done as described below in Table no.2.
Components of scale:
The multiple intelligence assessment tests 8 different types of intelligence as said by Gardner,
namely Verbal, Logical, Musical, Spatial, Kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal and Naturalistic
intelligence. The distribution of items for each component of intelligence are tabulated in the Table no.1.
Procedure:
• The scale with 56 positive statements to measure 8 types of intelligence and a total score of 280
comprising 35 maximum score for each type of intelligence is provided to the subject and asked to
respond.
• The subject is asked read the statement and to score () in the relevant options that is applicable
to them.
• The scoring for the options provided by the subject is done as per the scoring procedure provided
in the scale.
• Scoring is done by the experimenter and inference drawn from the scores to find the level of
multiple intelligence (i.e. High, Moderate and Low) using the overall total obtained.
• Scores are plotted in a graph sheet to have a visual form of the results.
Analysis:
The scores obtained by individual and group are listed in Table no.4 and 5 respectively.
The group score is plotted in the graph, to identify the variation in different forms of intelligence
among the subjects in the group.
Discussion:
1. Individual data:
From the scores of the individual response, we could find that my subject has high logical
intelligence and has a good interpersonal skill. The overall score indicates that the subject seems to
possess a fair degree of multiple intelligence.
2. Group data:
From the Table no.5, it is evident that most of the group members have significantly high multiple
intelligence and three of them possess average level of multiple intelligence.
Conclusion:
Using the scores for individual intelligence, a teacher can identify the ability of the students. The
students could be allotted activities according to their abilities and students who possess less intelligence
level could be promoted using varied teaching strategies and combined group activities. By knowing
students level of multiple intelligence, educationists have started using a way to understand the
uniqueness of each student and promote specific abilities they excel and improve the intelligence they
seem to lack behind, in order to mould up a complete personality.
