Abstract

This field project titled “Financial Literacy Levels Among Junior College Students in Virar” has
been undertaken as part of the Second-Year Financial Market course to provide students with
practical exposure to real-world financial practices. The project focuses on assessing the
awareness, knowledge, and understanding of basic financial concepts among junior college
students, which plays a crucial role in building financially responsible citizens and strengthening
the foundation of future financial markets.

The main objectives of the study are: (i) to evaluate the extent of financial knowledge among
students, (ii) to identify the areas where students face challenges in understanding financial
concepts, and (iii) to recommend measures that can improve financial literacy among youth.
These objectives aim to highlight the importance of financial education at an early stage.

To achieve these objectives, surveys and short interactions were conducted in various junior
colleges of Virar. A total of respondents participated in the study, and data was collected
through structured questionnaires covering topics such as savings, budgeting, banking, digital
payments, and basic investment knowledge.

The responses were analyzed to gain meaningful insights into the financial preparedness of
young students. The findings of the study indicate that while most students are familiar with
digital transactions and basic banking, their awareness about investments, budgeting, and long-
term financial planning is limited. Many respondents expressed interest in learning more about
modern financial tools but lacked proper guidance and resources.

In conclusion, the project highlights the urgent need to introduce structured financial literacy
programs in educational institutions. Equipping students with essential financial knowledge at an
early age will not only help them make informed personal finance decisions but also contribute
to the overall growth and stability of financial markets. This project enhanced student
understanding of the importance of financial literacy and provided valuable exposure to the
financial awareness levels of today’s youth.
