Some Key Definitions To Note
Population: It refers to the total number of people in a particular area or country at a given
time.
Population Density: It is the number of people living per unit area.
Population Distribution: It refers to how people are spread across a given area.
Demographic Transition Model: It is a model that shows how a country’s population changes
over time as it develops economically.

Migration: It is the movement of people from one place to another to live or work permanently
or temporarily.
Internal Migration: It is the movement within the same country.
International Migration: It is the movement from one country to another.
Rural- urban Migration: It is the movement of people from the countryside (rural areas) to
towns or cities (urban areas).
Brain Drain: It is the emigration of educated and skilled people to other countries for better
opportunities.
Refugee: A person who flees their country due to war or persecution.
Asylum Seeker: A person who applies for protection in another country but not yet granted the
refugee status.
