Poem Routine

Learning objectives:
1. Discuss the words/actions and main idea of the poem.
2. Recite/act out the poem.
3. Discuss rhyming words (if there are any).
4. Make connections to the title and big question.
5. memorize the poem

To teach the unit poem, use the following routine:

1- Read aloud
- Display the poem and read it out loud using beats and rhythm to attract the
student's attention.
- Repeat the verses a few times, each time adding more expressions and
actions to encourage students’s participation.
- Make use of the pictures in the poem to clarify the meaning.
- Walk them around the classroom while sounding out the rhyme, using facial
expressions, and stamping or clapping to the beat, allowing them to have fun
while learning the poem.

2- Use shared reading.


- Let the students repeat the poem while you point to the words.
- Practice reading or singing every day for a few days until students memorize
it.

3- Make connections to the unit.


- Discuss the poem and link it to the unit title and big question.

4- Apply drawing in the reading book.


- Ask students to open their reading book on the poem.
- Discuss the pictures with the students.
- Ask students to draw according to the directions of the worksheet.
