You should spend 20 minutes on this question.
You have a full-time job and are also doing a part-time evening course. You now find that you cannot
continue the course. Write a letter to the course tutor.
In your letter,
Describe the situation
Explain why you cannot continue at this time
Say what action you would like to take

Dear Ms. Sasha,

I hope you are doing good. This is Michael writing to inform you that I won’t be able to attend the Data
Management evening course (batch 2) starting from Monday onwards. Recently, I’ve been promoted to a
managerial position in the HR department at my company, which requires me to work full-time.

This promotion is a dream come true for me, and I have been striving hard to reach this level. I enrolled in
this course to enhance my skills, hoping it would contribute to my career advancement. However, the
unexpected promotion has boosted my career progression, making it challenging for me to balance work
and studies during weekdays.

Hence, I kindly request your guidance on whether it’s possible to switch my course to the weekend
schedule. Additionally, I am open to exploring other options to complete the course without attending
classes on weekdays. Thank you for your understanding and assistance in this matter.

I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Michael Smith

Write a letter to your friend.

In your letter,

tell your friend how you feel about the problem

explain how you faced a similar situation in the past
suggest possible solutions to the problem

Dear Simone,

I hope you’re doing well. I recently got your letter and learnt that you’re going through a rough patch at
your work, which got me concerned about your situation. However, let me tell you, dear friend that it is
part and parcel of the corporate world.

I can completely get into your shoes and understand what you may be going through, given that I’m in the
same domain as you. I went through the same phase when I was given an additional role to analyze the
dashboards and prepare an insight report for the collected data as the bandwidth of the organization was
short. However, I talked about this to the management, and they understood how this was adversely
affecting my functionality.

I’d suggest you have a one-on-one discussion with your manager or the HRBP as the management is
prudential enough to take note of what its employees are going through.

Remember, “This too, shall pass.”

Much love,
Prakhar Panchbhaiya
