A warm welcome to the distinguished faculty advisors and delegates to the 9th edition of the E.
Ahmed Model United Nations, 2025. I, Aanya… your senior president, am delighted to guide

solutions to the world’s pressing economic challenges.

President -
Greetings delegates, I’m Sumedha Saha and I will be your president for this edition of the
EAMUNC. From moderating the debates to ensuring adherence to the rules and procedures,
I’m here to ensure our committee functions smoothly.

I am Sai Rakhshitha, your Vice president and it will be my responsibility to ensure order and
efficiency in the committee, aiding the president in managing the flow of the session.

1. About ECOFIN

Senior president -
The Economic and Financial Committee, or ECOFIN, is the Second Committee of the General
Assembly. It offers delegates the opportunity to collaborate on addressing the complex
economic questions that shape our global future.

President -
ECOFIN’s work spans a broad agenda: sustainable development, international trade, financing
for development, globalization, and the eradication of poverty. It reviews reports from bodies
such as ECOSOC, the IMF, and the World Bank, while also considering resolutions on
economic growth, environmental cooperation, and the global impacts of crises.

Vice President -
This committee is where countries collaborate to promote fair international trade, mobilize
resources for development, and ensure that economic progress benefits all. In ECOFIN, every
country has a voice in shaping the economic agenda of the United Nations, making it a forum
where development, equity, and sustainability remain central.

2. Agenda
Senior President -
Our agenda this year is “Revolutionising Automation and Addressing Structural Unemployment.”
Automation and artificial intelligence have transformed industries worldwide, affecting
healthcare and manufacturing to logistics and digital services. These innovations have improved
how we live and work, while opening new opportunities for growth.

Rapporteur -
Yet, alongside these gains, automation has displaced millions of workers. Structural
unemployment, worsened by insufficient skills, has widened the gap between developed and
developing countries. This reality underscores the urgent need for inclusive economies where
innovation strengthens human potential, and the benefits of technology are shared by all.

President -
Here in ECOFIN, your challenge is to craft solutions that build economic stability, strengthen
international financial institutions, improve transparency, and reduce disparities across borders.
Let us turn debate into action and ensure that technology serves all humanity, rather than
dividing it.

3. Position Papers

Rapporteur -
One of the cornerstones of this conference is the submission of position papers. These papers
outline your country’s perspective on the agenda, highlighting existing policies, future plans, and
concrete proposals for solutions.

Vice President -
Strong position papers should capture your country’s priorities, the challenges it confronts, and
the frameworks or partnerships it supports. Please ensure your work is original, properly cited,
and submitted before the deadline. Do note that the quality of your paper will also influence the
speaking order during the General Debate.

Rapporteur -
Make full use of the background guide and rely on credible sources. Remember, position papers
are more than just a requirement; they `serve as blueprints that will guide your speeches, shape
alliances, and drive negotiations throughout the conference.

4. Closing

President -
Delegates, let diplomacy and objectivity guide your arguments as you battle opposing views.
We urge you to step forward with creativity, conviction and a genuine commitment to dialogue.

Senior President -
The Bureau of ECOFIN is eager to welcome you and anticipates though-provoking, dynamic
and solution driven sessions. We wish you the very best. Let us work together to make this
committee a force for real impact.
