150 Watts Audio Amplifier
This is a cheap 150 Watt amplifier based on two transistors.
Darlington power TIP 142 and TIP 147, this circuit can deliver a flow of 150 W
RMS to a 4 ohm horn.
TIP 147 and 142 are complementary Darlington pair transistors that can handle a
current of 5 and 100 V, famous for their robustness. Here are two BC558 Transistors
connected as preamplifiers and TIP 142, TIP 147 along with TIP41 (Q1, Q2, Q3) for

If you have little experience in assembling and adjusting an audio amplifier and
Do you want to build yourself a good power amplifier at a low price?
good performance of the same? This is your post!
The amplifier I bring you is nothing more and nothing less than a basic one, with parts
cheap, easy to obtain, and with very good power!
This amplifier delivers 100W at 8 ohms and about 160W at 4 ohms. It operates at
+/-40V, but you can power it with other voltages that I will mention later.
This amplifier was the first one I made, well, the first high power one and I
I liked it a lot, so much that I put it on a plate.
Initially, I thought the amplifier had very high distortion, but it does not. The
distortion is very low, so much that it still qualifies as a suitable amplifier for a
house (THD +-1%)

I guess some of you already know this circuit. Many will say that it is bad.
design. Yes, it may be bad, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. More
I will tell you why they say this design is bad.
Working!! Assembled 6 times, both permanently and temporarily, and not a single problem occurred!

very good the amplifier, for being the first attempt of many, it fits them very well
good.
Technical specifications and data on assembly
The amplifier will operate from +/-15V to +/-45V, being ideal at +/-35V to avoid
to be very close to both limits.
It will require 4 amperes per channel when powered with +/-35V, demanding 8 A.
when the amplifier is stereo.
Update 1: THD%
I recently simulated this circuit with Multisim 12 and the results are these:
It is highly advisable to have a fuse before the speaker, one of about 3.5A is perfect.
The capacitors for the power supply must be at least 6800uF 50V and the bridge
the diodes must withstand at least 10A
The output transistors will not be able to replace them. Maybe for the MJ11032 and
MJ11033 which are high power and in TO-3 package but are very expensive
(>$150 Mexican pesos) compared to the TIP142/147 which cost me only
$15 Mexican pesos each.
The amplifier does not require any adjustments or anything, just assemble it, it detects possible
faults or defects and try it, if it works, enjoy!
Amplifier test
Before directly connecting the amplifier, I suggest you connect a lamp.
series like the one shown:
In this case, the tested equipment is the amplifier, here you will connect the
power outlet of the assembled amplifier. Make sure the speaker is
disconnected and the amplifier input must be grounded.
The bulb or light bulb or whatever it's called must be 60W.
In this way, they will know if there is a short circuit or failure. To find out, they need to connect.
this circuit to a plug in your house. At first you will see a strong flash from the light bulb,
this is because the power supply capacitors are charging. After this the
the focus should light very little or hardly at all.
Now, if you passed this test, you proceed to measure the voltage between the output of
amplifier and GND, this value must be between 0 and 100mV if it is greater than this,
disconnect everything and start checking your amplifier.
If you passed this test, disconnect the input and connect an audio source.
(Cell phone, MP3, Walkman, PC) and plays music at a very low volume. You will see that
the light will illuminate very little, if you turn the volume up a little it will light a bit
more. This is normal.
Now, connect a 150W or 200W speaker and play music again. You will see that
the spotlight lights up even more, this is because there is a load which is the speaker.
Reproduce music and you will be able to turn it up a bit more. You will see that the light will turn on.
to the rhythm and volume of the music.
If all goes well and there is no smoke or any overheated component, you give it more.
volume and you will see that the light turns on a lot, this is because the consumption is
greater and that power dissipates in the focus.
If all this went correctly, disconnect the transformer from the series.
Connect it directly and I recommend that you put some earplugs in.
Why will you make noise seriously!
If you were able to pass the tests, congratulations, you have taken a big step in the world of
high power audio!
This means that you will be able to build others with powers slightly greater than 50W.
