Laboratory Cleaning and Disinfection Guide

This report describes the cleaning and disinfection procedures in a laboratory. It explains that regular cleaning and disinfection are important for improving safety and preventing the proliferation of microorganisms. It describes the physical and chemical cleaning methods, as well as the most common chemical disinfectants such as ethyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and iodine. Cleaning should be the first step before the application of disinfectants.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION REPORT

Aprendiz: Jhon Fray Ramirez Rubio

Currently, good laboratory practices (GLP) allow for improving quality.
of research analysis, as these induce and encourage improvements in the
laboratory practices in order to provide a more serious and truthful analysis in the
respective samples or processes to be carried out taking into account the regulations of
the BPL.
Cleaning and disinfection in the laboratory is the process of elimination of
dust particles or impurities and scheduled disinfection with substances
soaps and disinfectants, this in order to improve safety and avoid the
development of microorganisms, or simply eliminate the chemical residues that
they can affect our subsequent processes in laboratory practices.
In that sense, cleaning and disinfection are carried out "in order to eliminate the
dirt, reduce environmental burdens and eliminate biological waste"(Javeriana,
2008.)

This procedure must be carried out in all areas of the laboratory including
the relevant material that is available or with which work will be done
since this material must be handled by the material that is present
shift or support during the workday.
The ideal disinfectants are those that can kill or inactivate the
microorganisms such as viruses, bacteria, or fungi that act quickly, no
must be affected by environmental factors, especially that it is a
low toxicity disinfectant compatible with the assigned surfaces
standard or depending on the establishment, easy to use and soluble in water.
Cleaning must be a step prior to disinfection since, with this process, additionally
to eliminate many substances that can serve as nutrients for the
microorganisms, substances that can prevent solutions are removed
"disinfectants act efficiently" (Sena Center for Industrial Management, 2013)

The most common chemical disinfectants are:

Peracetic acid
Hydrogen Peroxide
Ethyl Alcohol
Isopropyl Alcohol
Formaldehyde
Yodo
The methods for cleaning are divided into:
Physical methods:
They are due to the dragging of impurities either with water or air, sand, brushing,
scraping, sweeping, vacuuming.
Chemical Methods:
Consistent application of cleaning products that react with the
components of dirt facilitating its dilution or dispersion." (Bellon-Fontaine, 2002)
