Y6 MHW10 WK10 – MULTIPLICATION TABLES PRESENTATION

Wednesday, 5th Nov. 2025

Presentation Date: Monday, 10th November – Friday 14th November 2025

Learning Objective: To know my multiplication tables confidently.
Success Criteria:

❖ I know my multiplication tables.

❖ I can use them to solve multiplication and division problems correctly and efficiently.

TASK:

You will prepare a PowerPoint Presentation based the multiplication table you selected.
(For example: x3, x4, … x12).

Your PowerPoint must include:

Slide Requirements
1. Multiplication Table Slide
i. Show the full multiplication table for the number you selected.
ii. Example (if you choose 3): Example, 3 × 0 = 0 up to 3 × 12 = 36

2. Multiplying by 10 Slide
i. Show multiples of 10 of the number you selected.
ii. Example (if you choose 3): Example, 30 × 0 = 0 up to 30 × 12 = 360

3. Multiplication Word Problems Slide

i. Write two multiplication word problems.
One must be a Thinking and Working Mathematically – Conjecturing and Convincing
question (a question where you explain how you know your answer is correct).
Example of TWM Multiplication Question: Marcus arranges chairs in rows for assembly. He
places 6 chairs in each row and makes 8 rows. He says there will be 48 chairs in total.
Is Marcus correct? Explain how you know.
ii. Provide answers for both questions.

4. Division Word Problems Slide

I. Write two division word problems.
II. One must be a Thinking and Working Mathematically – Conjecturing and
Convincing question.
Example of TWM Division Question: A teacher has 42 markers and wants to share
them equally among 6 groups. Lily says each group will get 8 markers.
Is she correct? Explain how you know.

III. Provide answers for both questions.

5. Missing Number (Multiplication) Slide

i. Write two multiplication calculations where the missing number must be found
using your selected number.
ii. Give answers.
iii. Example:
a. 3 × ____ = 21 Answer is 7
b. 30 × ____ = 180 Answer is 6

6. Missing Number (Division) Slide

i. Write two division calculations where the missing number must be found using your
selected number.
ii. Give answers.
iii. Example:
o 27 ÷ 3 = ____ Answer is 9
o 360 ÷ 3 = ____ Answer is 120

7. Question & Answer (Q&A) Slide

i. In this section, you will be asked at least 5 questions on your chosen multiplication
table. Be prepared to answer them confidently during your presentation.

Important Notes!

i. Your presentation must be clear, neat, and well-organized.

ii. You may include pictures or graphics to make your slides creative and engaging.
iii. Practice at home so you can present confidently in class.

Practicing multiplication with multiples of 10 is an effective strategy for strengthening multiplication skills because it simplifies calculations by leveraging the decimal system's structure. Multiples of 10 provide a natural step towards understanding powers of 10 and exponential growth. This method helps students quickly grasp place value concepts and articulate multiplication strategies, making the broader operation more intuitive and manageable .

Visual aids in a PowerPoint presentation contribute to the learning of multiplication tables by engaging multiple senses, which can enhance memory retention. They help clarify complex concepts, making them more accessible and less abstract. By visually mapping the connections between numbers, students can better understand patterns and relationships in multiplication. Visual aids also add an element of creativity, which can increase motivation and interest in the subject .

Solving missing number calculations in both multiplication and division strengthens mathematical skills by reinforcing the relationships between numbers and operations. These exercises improve a student's number sense and fluency in recognizing patterns, enabling them to solve equations quickly. By shifting focus between operations, students develop flexibility and a deeper understanding of inverse operations .

The use of multiplication and division questions that require explanation enhances mathematical reasoning by compelling students to go beyond rote calculation. It encourages critical evaluation, inference, and a deeper understanding of mathematical principles. Students must articulate their reasoning, justify their methods, and validate their conclusions, which strengthens analytical skills and promotes a logical approach to problem-solving .

Preparing to answer questions on a multiplication table during a presentation improves mathematical communication skills by necessitating clear articulation of thought processes and reasoning. This preparation helps students organize their knowledge coherently and express their understanding to others, enhancing their ability to communicate complex ideas effectively in both written and spoken forms .

Creating a PowerPoint presentation on multiplication tables aids in learning them effectively by allowing students to engage in active learning. By organizing information, creating visuals, and explaining concepts to an audience, students internalize their knowledge and improve recall. The structured process of preparing slides and solving example problems enhances both understanding and retention of multiplication tables .

Conjecturing and convincing questions play a crucial role in learning multiplication and division by encouraging deep understanding and critical evaluation of mathematical arguments. These questions push students to not only find the correct answer but also to explain their thought process and reasoning, reinforcing their understanding of fundamental concepts and improving their ability to communicate mathematical ideas .

Including word problems in a multiplication table presentation is important because they demonstrate practical applications of multiplication, helping students relate abstract concepts to real-world scenarios. Word problems require students to interpret language into mathematical operations, thereby enhancing their analytical skills and applying their knowledge to solve problems contextually .

Practicing division through word problems benefits understanding division concepts by contextualizing the mathematical operation, making it more relatable and understandable. It helps students grasp the idea of equal distribution and fractions, enhancing their ability to interpret division in various scenarios. This practice also improves critical thinking and problem-solving skills as students learn to extract mathematical meaning from textual descriptions .

Practicing multiplication tables enhances a student's ability to solve complex mathematical problems by providing a foundation of quick and accurate recall of basic facts. This foundation reduces cognitive load, allowing the student to focus on higher-order problem-solving strategies and logical reasoning. Confident knowledge of multiplication tables helps in simplifying calculations in algebra, geometry, and even calculus, thereby improving efficiency and accuracy in solving complex problems.
