Measure between the Hot terminal and Neutral Terminal:
1) Place the red probe in the HOT terminal (shorter slot)
2) Place the black probe in the Neutral terminal (longer slot)
3) You should get a reading between 110V an 125V
If you read higher than this range, DO NOT USE THIS RECEPTACLE.
If you read lower than 110 volts, that indicates the circuit feeding this receptacle
is heavily loaded, or there is a lot of wire between the service panel and where
you are metering. It may be possible to use this receptacle, but you may
encounter brown-out conditions which can also be hard on gear.
Measure between Hot Terminal and Ground Terminal:
1) Place the red probe in the HOT terminal (shorter slot)
2) Place the black probe in the ground terminal (round slot)
3) You should read between 110 and 125 volts AC
Measure between Neutral and Ground:
1) Place the black lead in the neutral terminal (long slot)
2) Place the red lead in the ground terminal (round slot)
3) Reading should be less than 5 volts (0 to 5V)
