Theory:
A diode circuit that can convert a sinusoidal input waveform into a
unidirectional waveform is called a rectifier. Full wave rectifier circuits
convert both cycles of a sinusoidal input into dc. These are of two types –
Center-tapped
tapped FWR and Bridge FWR.
Since a PN-junction
junction diode allows the currentt to pass in one direction from
anode to cathode, the diode can thus be used to rectify AC signals. The half
wave rectifier.

Experiment No:-11 To verify input and output waveform
of the half wave rectifier
Conversion of an AC wave to a DC wave is called rectification. In the
electronic circuit shown in Fig. 1, the diode is forward biased during positive
half cycle, and it conducts a current through the load resistor R1 (Fig. 2). The
positive half cycle wave is then presenting at the cathode of the diode
designated by Vout-2, 2, which is across resistor R1. During the reverse bias,
b
no current will flow through the circuit. Therefore, the negative-half
negative cycle
could not appear across the load. Since the wave recurs itself, the positive
half cycles will only be seen on the output Vout
Vout-2.
Procedure:
(A) Half wave rectifiers without filter
1. Connect the circuit diagram shown in Fig. 1 so that CH1 and CH2 inputs of
the oscilloscope are connected to Vout
Vout-1 and Vout-2,
2, respectively.
2. Measure Vout-2 2 by a voltmeter.
3. Plot the AC input voltage of the recti
rectifier and measure its frequency.
4. Plot the DC output
utput voltage of the rectifier.
5. Plot the DC output
utput current of the rectifier.
6. Change the load to 0.5 k
kΩ and repeat the steps 2 through 4.
7. Change the load to 100 Ω and repeat the steps 2 through

Calculation:
1. Calculate [Link] and Vdc values by using the formulas:
Vr.m.s = Vm / 2 Vdc= Vm / π
2. Calculate the ripple factor by using the formulae
r = Vac / Vdc= √ ((Vrms2 –Vdc2)-1)
Precautions:
1. Before switch ON the power supply, make sure connections are proper:
a. No loose connections
b. Multimeter knobs are set on desired measuring quantities.
2. Do not rotate the knobs of coarse and fine in power supply frequently.
3. Handle the electronic devices and equipments delicately
4. Make sure transformer terminals are connected appropriately.
