PODCAST 1: POLYGLOT
1. Introduction
- Hello, how is it going? Are you doing good? It is me again.
- You may wonder who is this? Okay, I am nobody okay.
- But, does it matter? If it is a “no”, you can continue otherwise you better stop right here.
- A couple of days ago, I received a few of questions on how to learn English especially IELTS
effectively to get a high score
- So if you have the same question, this podcast is for you
- Now, without further ado, let’s begin our podcast
2. Body
2.1 Mindset on IELTS
- First thing first, learning IELTS has much to do with mindset
- From my point of view, IELTS examination is somewhat similar to a playground, at least a service
- Is It true that you pay money to take tests and receive a score. It seems everything like when you
spend some cash in a coffee shop and get served by the waiter, innit?
- What make IELTS different is about its impact on your career and even your life because an high-
scored ielts certificate can allow you to have a decent job and present yourself in a good image on
the eyes of others.
- The reason I tell you this is (that) I want you to change your viewpoint a little bit about IELTS thus
you won’t feel intimidated or anxious when it comes to learning for IELTS tests.
- However, it is not to say that you can achieve an excellent result on your IELTS test without any
investment.
- In contrast, you are supposed to put a lot of effort, time and of course money into learning IELTS.
- For an average test taker, it takes at least 6 months to study essential techniques and strategies to
ace the test.
- As a result, you should stay focused, determined and more importanly motivated during your IELTS
study and I am sure your endeavour will pay off one day.
2.2 Determination and motivation
- Then you may ask me how to keep determination and motivation in learning English. In this case,
my answer is simple.
- To be determined, it is important for you to foster infatuation with the language you learn since I
don’t think you will be committed to studying a tongue without loving it in the first place.
- At first, I had no desire to study English, let alone IELTS. But, after reading some classic literature in
English, I fell in love with it and discovered how gorgeous it could be.
- Sometimes, you also need to reflect on the reasons why you decided to learn the language from
the start and always remind yourself of them. This will help you find out true meaning of your
learning
- In terms of motivation, there are plenty ways for you to stay inspired and the decisions of choosing
which one is up to you.
- For me, I set a range of goals, both short-term and long-term. By this way, I can enjoy a sense of
fulfillment and that enables me to progress little by little, day by day.
- On the other hand, you can be motivated when having someone around, the one that can push you
out of your safe zone and give a hand to you 24/7. That is to mention, watching some movies is also
a useful approach, I mean english-spoken movies, not korean ok.
- After all, I gotta admit that it is quite difficult for you to consistently remain excited to learn and
you know what?. It is totally fine. We are all humans therefore at some times, we can become lazy,
distracted and disappointed. That is acceptable.
- But remember, don’t let those negative conditions drag on and on and lead you to a detrimental
lifestyle.
- As long as you find an inner voice in your head telling that it is time you should get back on the
track, you are successful.
3. Conclusion
- That is all for today’s podcast. Due to a limited amount of time, I could only discuss briefly on 2 of
many matters that an IELTS or generally English learner can be faced with.
- I would like to say thanks to my fellow Cẩm Tiên for having me on the podcast.
