1-Problem Scenario:

Omar is a newly graduated nurse working in the surgery department and during the
ward round the surgeon asked Omar to remove old wound dressing for the patient in
room 330 to assess it. when the doctor came, he examined the wound without
following the instructions of infection control. Omar was surprised by this behavior
he did not comment on the wrong doctor's behavior because he did not have the
confidence and courage to do so. After the doctor left, Omar went to the head of the
nursing and told her about the situation and told her that next time he would have the
confidence to prevent such behavior.
Apply Gibbs reflective cycle to analyze this situation.
by using Gibbs model to analyze this situation:

Description: Omar is a newly graduated nurse working in the surgery department and
suffered to situation but he did not act to challenge the doctor's practice before he
examined the patient.
Feelings: Omar was surprised by this behavior he did not comment on the wrong
doctor's behavior because he did not have the confidence and courage to do so.
Evaluation: as a result of this incident Omar have learned the importance of acting
assertively with colleagues, in a sensitive manner, in order to safeguard patients' well-
being.
Analysis based on evidence: The Royal College of Nursing (2005) states that: hand
hygiene is the single most important activity for reducing cross-infection, and points out
that many health care professionals do not decontaminate their hands as often as they
should.
Conclusion: Looking back on this incident, I can see that I should have acted sooner,
and that should have ensured that the doctor washed her hands before examining the
patient.
Action Plan: In future, I will aim to develop my assertive skills when working with
colleagues, in order to ensure that the well-being of patients is maintained.
