Ethics is very crucial in research, because this defines how researchers apply
responsibility and consent throughout their participants or users, upon what would they
expect or test, especially when it comes to products that could base on satisfaction
measures. It also depends on the permission and integrity of them, because without
legalities or what, they could be confused or frustrated upon task management and time
consummation, which could affect the research plan. And for online research, other factors
are considered, like remote accessibilities, connectivity and how they familiarize
themselves with the meeting agenda for something that researchers need in data collection.
Though, for necessaries, guidelines are applied to follow to ensure that research is done with
utmost ethical consideration, applying ethics itself and enumerating some of them.
In online research, several additional ethical considerations come into play due to unique
nature of digital platforms and new forms of data collection using online surveys or calls.
One key guideline is ensuring data integrity, privacy and confidentiality, which involves using
secure platforms and anonymizing data to protect participants’ identities. Another crucial
one is security, which requires researchers to use robust encryption and high-quality storage
methods to prevent unauthorized access or breaches that could cause manipulation upon
exposure to unknown sources. They could also consider digital accessibility, ensuring that
participants with various technical abilities or those in remote locations can participate
without undue difficulty and prevent other technical issues. This includes providing clear
instructions and support to minimize frustration and confusion.
Furthermore, ethical online research guidelines also need participant withdrawal, to make
easy and proceeded decisions to exit the study at any point without such penalty, which
must be communicated and agreed clearly from the start. Following that is debriefing which
explains the purpose of the research, objectives, importance and achievements upon their
contribution to propose their plan for them. This step is vital for transparency and helps to
mitigate any potential negative feelings or misunderstandings. Ultimately, these given five
guidelines ensure that online research is very well conducted with the same high ethical
standards as traditional means, prioritizing the well-being and rights of participants above
all else.
