26 Are the elbows on the inlet piping of long radius type?
Is a dripleg valve fitted to the lowest point of the inlet piping to
27

Check that all piping is well supported to minimise loading on the
28
compressor flanges.
29 If installed make sure silencer is correctly positioned (Air flow).
Check that discharge check valve (NRV) is correctly installed
30
(Flaps in a vertical position).
Is a block valve installed on discharge line? To isolate unit for
31
maintenance.
If necessary, a safety valve may also be installed between block
32
valve and compressor.
33 If safety valve installed, Check correct calibration.
Page 1
Check that discharge pipe from compressor should enter the
34 system header by way of long radius elbows or at an angle in
the direction of air flow (No T pieces).
35 Check that the discharge piping is free of corrosion and clean.
Check that ½ “ NPT connection is installed on top of discharge
36 pipe (Allow a minimum of 10 pipe diameters downstream from
discharge check valve).
Check pipe and piping connections between panel “CA”
37
connection and ½” NPT connection.
Check operation of start-up compressor (Setpoint 414-827 kPa
38
with a flow of 10 SCFM).
39 Check air dryer operation and electrical supply.
Check that in-line filters are installed before entering panel “IA”
40
on instrument air pipe.
41 Check that air is of clean dry instrument quality air.
Check that instrument air pipe is connected to panel ”IA”
42
connection.
Check that isolating valve is installed before air dryer or in-line
43
filter.
44 Check that the water piping is free of corrosion and clean.
Check operation of throttle valve installed in the discharge water
45
line.
Check operation of gate valves installed to the inlet of the
46
compressor water system.
Is the cooling tower’s internal circuit connected to the
47
compressor’s piping?
Check that the water pipes are connected correctly (Water flows
48
opposite to air flow).
49 Check if a strainer is installed to the water supply line.
Flush water pipes out before supplying compressor with cooling
50
water.
51 Check operations of cooling tower (Pumps and fans).
Check that water pressure is between 250 and 500 kPa and
52
water temperature at 25 deg C.
53 Check that water is clean and free of corrosive elements.
If water is dirty or silt-laden, a piping arrangement that will allow
54
for back flushing the coolers is recommended.
55 Check that chemical water treatment device is operational.
Check that air cooler vents (on top of cooler housing) are piped
56
to a drain or a suitable connection on the water discharge line.
57 Check air vent valves operation.
Bleed / remove air out of water system and air coolers (using air
58
vent).
Check maximum differential across air coolers of 83 to 103 kPa
59
(Throttle if necessary).
Check that each condensate drain trap is piped to a drain or a
60
tray (Do not manifold piping together).
61 Check that each condensate drain has a manual by-pass valve.
If Bekomats were fitted, check the electrical supply and the
62
operation of the electronic drain traps.
Check that remote fault / alarm contacts are connected to
63
customer system.
64 Check that unit is properly grounded (earthed).
Check that the design and installation for disconnect,
65
overvoltage, short circuit and overload protection are correct.
Check that the supply cable and breaker size is adequate to
66
handle in-rush currents.
67 Check that all cables are colour coded.
Check that the feedback contact is available and connected from
68 contactor inside switchgear to IR panel (N/o volt-free contact
indicating contactor is energised).
Check that local start button on switchgear cannot be used (only
69
start contact from IR panel).
Page 2
Check operation of local stop button on switchgear (must stop
70
main motor).
Check that the start contact from IR panel is connected to the
71
switchgear starting circuit (do not exceed 720 VAC).
Check that 3-phase power is connected from switchgear to
72
motor.
Check that the incoming voltage matches the voltage on the
73
main motor nameplate.
Before applying power to main motor, it must be meggered to
74
ensure the integrity of the insulation.
75 Check operation of oil reservoir heaters.
Check current transformer rating ensures CT can provide a 0-5
76

77
added to the sump.
Check compressor lubricant, motor lubricant and coupling
78
grease for conformance to specifications.
79 Fill oil sump to “Normal” level
80 Check oil level after oil has been circulated for an hour.
