Lesson Discussion: English Dialogues

A dialogue is a conversation between two or more people. It is very useful in learning English
because it helps us practice listening, reading, and speaking skills in different situations such as
greetings, shopping, and workplace interactions.
Through dialogues, we can experience English in real-life contexts, which makes our learning
more practical and effective.”

Importance of Dialogues in English Learning

“Dialogues are important in language learning because they develop three major skills:”
1. Practice Key Skills – By reading and speaking dialogues, you practice pronunciation, fluency,
and conversation skills in realistic situations, like meeting new people or buying something.
2. Learn Vocabulary and Grammar – Dialogues introduce new words and expressions and show
how grammar works in real-life use.
Example:
Present simple → routines (e.g., I go to school every day.)
Past continuous → ongoing past actions (e.g., I was studying when you called.
3. Improve Comprehension – Listening to or reading dialogues helps you understand how
English is spoken and written in daily life.

Examples of Dialogues
“Let’s look at some types of dialogues.”
1. Formal Greetings
“Good morning.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Thank you.”
(Often used with a handshake and polite tone.)

2. Everyday Conversations
Introducing yourself: “Hi, I’m Anna. What’s your name?”
Talking about hobbies: “I enjoy playing basketball on weekends.”
3. Workplace Dialogues
Offering help: “Do you need assistance with the report?”
Discussing tasks: “The meeting will start at 2 p.m.”

Always remember:
• Practice pronunciation and intonation
• Learn turn-taking and eye contact
• Build confidence in speaking
