Section A (1 mark each)
1. Find the HCF of 65 and 117 using Euclid’s algorithm.
2. Find the sum of zeros of the polynomial p(x) = 2x^2 - 3x + 5.
3. Solve: 2x + 3y = 12, x - y = 1 by substitution method (only first step).
4. Find the roots of the quadratic equation x^2 - 7x + 10 = 0.
5. Write the 10th term of the A.P. 5, 8, 11, ...
6. A shopkeeper buys an article at Rs 250 and sells it at a profit of Rs 50. If he sells 40 such
articles, find the total profit percentage.
Section B (2 marks each)
7. A bus covers 96 km in 3 hours. If the speed of the bus had been 4 km/hr more, it would have
taken 15 minutes less. Find the speed of the bus.
8. If one root of the quadratic equation 2x^2 + kx + 3 = 0 is –3, find the value of k.
9. The sum of first n terms of an AP is 5n - n^2. Find the nth term.
10. A train travels 60 km at a uniform speed. If the speed had been 6 km/hr more, it would have
taken 15 minutes less. Find the speed of the train.
11. In a ∆ABC, DE ■ BC intersects AB at D and AC at E. If AD/AB = 3/5, find the ratio of the areas
of ∆ADE and ∆ABC.
12. Find the coordinates of the centroid of the triangle whose vertices are (–1, 3), (3, 1) and (2, –4).
Section C (3 marks each)
13. The sum of the first 20 terms of an A.P. is 210 and the sum of its first 40 terms is 820. Find the
first term and the common difference of the A.P.
14. A farmer wishes to dig a well of diameter 14 m and depth 10 m. Find the volume of the earth
dug out. (Use π = 22/7)
15. Solve for x: 1/(x+2) + 2/(x+3) = 3/(x+4).
16. The sum of the first 7 terms of an A.P. is 49 and that of the first 17 terms is 289. Find the first
term and common difference.
17. The ages of two friends differ by 3 years. The sum of their ages is 47 years. Find their ages.
18. ∆ABC ~ ∆DEF, AB = 6 cm, DE = 9 cm, and area of ∆ABC = 36 cm². Find area of ∆DEF.
19. A motorboat, whose speed is 18 km/hr in still water, takes 1 hour more to go 24 km upstream
than to return downstream. Find the speed of the stream.
20. A shopkeeper buys pencils at the rate of Rs 3 per pencil. He marks them at Rs 4 each and
allows a discount of 5%. Find his gain percent.
21. A point P(x, 2) is equidistant from Q(–2, 5) and R(3, –4). Find the value of x.
22. A quadratic equation has sum of roots as 5 and product of roots as 6. Form the equation and
solve it.
Section D (4 marks each)
23. A two-digit number is such that the product of its digits is 24. If we add 18 to the number, the
digits interchange their places. Find the number.
24. Divide 2x^4 - 3x^3 + 3x^2 - 5x + 2 by x^2 - 2x + 1.
25. Solve the pair of equations: x + y = 5, 2x - 3y = 4 using elimination method. Also, find the point
of intersection.
26. The sum of the first 30 multiples of 7 is to be found. Calculate it.
27. A passenger train takes 3 hours less than a goods train to travel 132 km between two stations.
If the average speed of the goods train is 11 km/hr less than that of the passenger train, find the
average speed of the two trains.
28. A ladder 10 m long reaches a window 8 m above the ground. Find the distance of the foot of the
ladder from the base of the wall. Also, find the value of sinθ, cosθ.
29. The following table shows the daily wages of 50 workers in a factory. Draw a histogram for the
data: Wages (Rs): 0–50, 50–100, 100–150, 150–200, 200–250 No. of Workers: 5, 10, 20, 10, 5
30. Find the ratio in which the y-axis divides the line segment joining the points A(–1, –5) and B(5,
–1). Also, find the coordinates of the point of division.
