The bar graph illustrates the different modes of transportation that commuters in one European city
used in 1960, 1980, and 2000.

Generally, buses lost attraction as cars became more commonplace. Also, it can be observed that
commuter usage on trains and subways remained consistent over the time.

According to the graph, the majority of city dwellers used buses to get to and from work in 1960. In
comparison to those who relied on tubes, this was over 40%, or almost 10% greater. The majority of
commuters (about 18%) took the train, whereas only 7% used cars. The percentage of people who
used buses and tubes decreased in 1980, falling by about 10 and 5 percentage points, respectively.
The growth in automobile commuters virtually doubled when 10% more people joined the train.

The most widely used form of transportation by the year 2000 was the car. The proportion of people
who commuted by bus fell to 15% whereas just over 35% of those who worked commuted by
vehicle. In the same year, 22 to 25% of people used trains and subways.
