Circulatory System - Notes
The Circulatory System is the transport system of the body. It carries oxygen,
nutrients, hormones, and waste materials to and from the cells, helping maintain
life and homeostasis.
Main Components:
1. Heart – The muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body.
2. Blood – The fluid that carries oxygen, nutrients, and wastes.
3. Blood Vessels – Tubes that transport blood:
- Arteries carry blood away from the heart.
- Veins carry blood to the heart.
- Capillaries connect arteries and veins, allowing exchange of materials between
blood and tissues.
Circulation Types:
1. Systemic Circulation – Carries oxygenated blood from the heart to the body
and brings deoxygenated blood back.
2. Pulmonary Circulation – Carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the
lungs for oxygenation and back to the heart.
Functions of the Circulatory System:
- Transports oxygen and nutrients to cells.
- Removes carbon dioxide and waste materials.
- Helps in regulating body temperature.
- Protects the body through immune cells in the blood.
- Maintains fluid balance and pH levels.
Conclusion:
The circulatory system is vital for survival. It ensures that every cell in the body
gets the oxygen and nutrients it needs and that waste products are efficiently
removed, keeping the body healthy and functional.
