The Grade 7 students with at least 85% accuracy will be able to:
a. identify the different elements of poetry;
b. explain the importance of each element in understanding a poem; and
c. create a short poem applying the learned elements.

A. Preliminaries (10 minutes)
• Prayer

• Simple Recall of the previous lesson(Elements of Fiction)

B. Activity (7 minutes)
The teacher will show a short poem titled “The Rainbow” by Christina Rossetti.
Students will read the poem aloud together.
After reading, the teacher will ask:
What did you notice about the poem?
Did you hear any words that rhyme?
How did the poem make you feel?
Students will share their answers.
After viewing, students will answer these guide questions:
• What do you think these pictures are showing?
• What can we learn about Filipinos from these pictures?
• How do these pictures relate to literature?
C. Analysis (5 minutes)
After the activity, the teacher will ask the students the following questions to gradually
introduce them to the subject matter. The teacher will also call on some students to
express their insights and ideas regarding the questions. Students who are unable to
respond orally may use the chat box; they may type and send their responses in the in-
call messages.
• What does literature tell us about our ancestors?
• How does it reflect our culture and identity?
• What do you think our lesson for today is about?
D. Abstraction ( 15 minutes)
What is Literature?
Literature is a written or spoken work that expresses ideas, emotions, and
experiences creatively.
What is Philippine Literature?
Philippine Literature is the body of written and oral works that reflect the lives,
culture, and traditions of Filipinos throughout history.
Periods of Philippine Literature:
Precolonial Period – Oral literature such as riddles, proverbs, and folk tales.
Spanish Period – Religious and didactic literature (Doctrina Christiana, Pasyon).
American Period – Modern short stories, poems, and plays in English.
Japanese Period – Literature focused on nationalism and simplicity.
Contemporary Period – Modern works in Filipino, English, and local languages.
E. Application (10 minutes)
The teacher will divide the class into small groups. Each group will choose one period of
Philippine Literature. After that, the group will create a short poem, skit, or drawing that
represents the chosen period and reflects its characteristics or themes.
Rubric for Group Activity (Total: 50 points)
1. Creativity – 15 pts
The output shows originality and imagination.
2. Relevance – 15 pts
The work clearly reflects the chosen literary period.
3. Teamwork – 10 pts
All members participated and cooperated.
4. Presentation – 10 pts
The output is clear, organized, and confidently presented.
IV. Assessment of Learning (10 minutes)
In order to check the students’ understanding, the teacher will provide a short quiz about the
elements of fiction. The students are given 10 minutes to complete the task.
