Terrestrial TV Amplification Calculations
Terrestrial TV Amplification Calculations
Calculate the level of gain that should be given to each mono amplifier for
that all the installation shots are within the quality levels for the
sound broadcasting services and digital terrestrial television established in the RICT.
Detailed process:
STEP 1–The first thing to do is to calculate the losses in each and every one of
the network's inputs to determine which is the best and the worst input. As the network is
We will only do it symmetrically for houses A, since houses B are exactly
same.
➢ Losses in 4ºA: It is calculated using the following formula:
PThomas 4A = Pderivation B+ Pdelivery person 3 exits+ Ptake+ Pwiring
The formula is the same for the three measurements of the house; the only thing that changes is the square meters.
for the wiring for each socket, as they are different.
For the calculation of losses in the coaxial cable, we consider a frequency of 600MHz.
(to account for larger losses within UHF) which gives me 0.142 dB/m. For the
Derivators, distributors, and outlets will take the corresponding losses to UHF.

According to these calculations, we can determine that the best shot (the shot with the least
losses) and the worst take (the take with the most losses) are:
STEP 2–The next step is to determine the level that must be achieved at the output of the
headboard amplifiers so that in the best and worst take the levels are the
established by the regulations.

According to the level table, and taking into account that the modulation used for DTT is
COFDM-TV, the maximum permitted level at user connections is 77 dBµV and the level
the minimum is 47 dBµV.
We will take the level at the output of the head amplifiers as the average of those two.
niveles:
➢ Levelheader outputLevelmaximum header+ Levelmínimo cabecera) / 2
Levelheader output(104.28 + 81.11) / 2 = 92.70 dBµV
That will be the level we must have at the output of the headend amplifiers for
that all installation measurements comply with the regulations. That level will be selected
with the field meter.
Let's check that the regulations are met for the best and worst shot, in this way, it
it will apply to all the installation's connections as they are included between these two:
In this way, we can observe that the established levels in the regulations are met.
All connections will have levels ranging between 58.59 dBµV and 65.42 dBµV.
STEP 3–The last step is to determine the profit that must be given to each
mono-channel amplifier to achieve those levels.
