coupled with surveys of 600 consumers reveals that consumers prefer brands that align
with their values and contribute to meaningful causes. The authors emphasize that
emotional appeals and authentic messaging play pivotal roles in ensuring campaign
success. Recommendations include integrating advocacy campaigns into broader

encourage purchases. The study uses surveys of 800 consumers and an analysis of 100
retargeting campaigns, revealing that retargeting significantly increases conversion
rates, particularly for products with high initial interest. The authors discuss the
importance of timing and frequency in delivering retargeting ads to avoid consumer
fatigue or annoyance. Recommendations include utilizing cookies and behavioral data
to enhance retargeting strategies while maintaining transparency and respecting privacy
to foster long-term consumer trust.

Taylor, A. & Lee, H. (2018): This study examines the role of social media engagement
in building brand loyalty among consumers. Engaging directly with consumers through
likes, comments, and shares creates a sense of community and fosters deeper
connections. The research includes a case study of five brands and surveys of 600
consumers, highlighting how consistent interaction and personalized responses to
consumer queries can significantly enhance loyalty. Findings indicate that brands that
actively participate in consumer conversations and address concerns promptly are
perceived as more trustworthy and relatable. Recommendations include investing in

campaigns, highlighting the importance of visual content in driving engagement and
conversions. The authors recommend investing in professional-grade content creation
and experimenting with short-form videos, as platforms like Instagram and TikTok are

consumers to make impulsive decisions. A survey of 400 consumers and an analysis of
100 ad campaigns revealed that ads tailored to individuals' browsing history were
particularly effective. The authors emphasize the power of personalization, which
makes advertisements feel more relevant and engaging to the target audience.

Preferences in the Fashion Industry": This study examines the role of social media
influencers in shaping consumer preferences within the competitive fashion industry.
Influencers who create authentic, relatable content often establish a strong rapport with
their audiences, leading to a deeper impact on purchasing decisions. The study analyzed
30 influencers through interviews and collected data from 800 consumers via surveys.
Findings suggest that Instagram is the leading platform for influencer marketing in the
fashion space, primarily due to its visual and interactive nature. Recommendations

collaborations are suggested to strengthen trust and enhance audience engagement over
time.

Trust and Purchase Decisions": This study investigates the power of consumer reviews
and ratings on social media platforms in influencing purchase decisions. Positive
reviews, particularly those with detailed feedback, significantly enhance purchase
intent by increasing consumer trust in the product or service. Conversely, negative
reviews act as deterrents, underscoring the need for brands to address criticisms quickly
and effectively. The study employed sentiment analysis on 1,000 social media reviews
and conducted surveys with 500 participants to explore the impact of online feedback.
The authors emphasize that responding promptly to reviews—especially negative
ones—plays a critical role in maintaining trust. Recommendations include using AI
tools to monitor and analyze consumer sentiment, training customer support teams to

buyers perceive it as more authentic than traditional advertising. The research includes
a case study of five popular brands successfully leveraging UGC and a survey of 750
consumers, which highlights the effectiveness of relatable and reliable user-created
content. Recommendations suggest brands actively encourage UGC by creating

aspirational visuals—are more likely to drive purchases. The research involves a
mixed-method approach, combining surveys with content analysis of 200
advertisements, to identify platform-specific trends. Instagram is highlighted as
yielding higher engagement rates compared to Facebook due to its visually driven

Sikder, S., Ahmed, K. S., & Bala, S. C. (2025), "The Analysis of Influences of Social
Media on Consumer Purchasing Decision": This study examines the profound impact
of social media on consumer purchasing decisions, focusing on how platforms like
Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok shape consumer behavior. The research highlights

decision-making and emotional engagement. Recommendations include leveraging
social media's interactive features to enhance consumer trust and tailoring content to
align with consumer preferences

2.2 Research Gap

Social media marketing has become a vital instrument for influencing consumer
behavior in recent years. The impact of social media sites like Instagram, Facebook,
YouTube, and Twitter on brand perception, engagement, and purchase decisions has
been the subject of numerous studies in a variety of industries. Analyzing the sector-
specific and location-specific effects of these strategies, particularly within the Quick
Service Restaurant (QSR) segment, is a crucial research gap that currently exists in the
literature.
While numerous studies demonstrate the effectiveness of social media marketing in
sectors such as fashion, electronics, and lifestyle, little scholarly attention has been paid
to the fast-food industry, where visual content, peer reviews, and limited-time
promotions frequently influence impulsive purchases. The cultural, linguistic, and
behavioral subtleties that influence consumer engagement in regional markets like
Chennai, India, are also often overlooked by current research, which has a tendency to
extrapolate findings across larger geographic areas.
Although KFC, a well-known QSR brand worldwide, has effectively adopted digital
marketing strategies, there is a lack of empirical data examining how well these
strategies work in local Indian markets, especially in urban areas like Chennai where a
combination of tradition, modernity, and growing digital literacy shapes consumer
behavior. Mainstream research frequently ignores elements like regional language
content, working with Tamil influencers, aligning with local festivals, and the
effectiveness of regionally relevant campaigns.

CHAPTER-2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Furthermore, despite recent research highlighting the efficacy of influencer marketing,

augmented reality (AR), retargeted advertisements, and interactive posts, little is known
about how these strategies are used locally in KFC's social media strategy or how they
affect Chennai consumers' decisions. It is unclear how well these particular strategies
work with the Chennai population or how successful they are in comparison to more
conventional digital engagement methods.
The incorporation of user-generated content (UGC) and consumer feedback in forming
social proof for fast food brands in local contexts is another neglected area. In the
context of a well-known brand like KFC, little is known about how Chennai-based
consumers view, react to, and are influenced by testimonials and reviews, despite the
fact that brands are increasingly depending on them to establish credibility.
Therefore, by investigating the ways in which different social media marketing tactics
influence consumer purchasing decisions, particularly for KFC in Chennai, this study
aims to close the current research gap. It seeks to shed light on the digital marketing
strategies that work best in this particular region and how they might be improved even
more to increase sales conversion, brand loyalty, and customer engagement.
