Luke 10:25-37

The Parable of the Good Samaritan


This passage makes me realize how often I limit the meaning of “neighbor”
to the people I already like or those who are easy to love. But Jesus reminds
me that love must go beyond convenience and comfort. True love means
showing compassion even to those I struggle to get along with. The
Samaritan did not just feel pity, he acted. He interrupted his plans, spent his
resources, and personally cared for the wounded man.

When I look at my own life, I see how many times I pass by opportunities to
help others because I am too busy, too tired, or afraid of the cost. I
sometimes choose what is comfortable rather than what is compassionate.
And sometimes, I admit, I find it difficult to love those neighbors who do not
share the same views, values, or perspectives in life. It feels easier to
distance myself or to judge quietly instead of showing genuine concern. Yet,
Jesus shows me that love cannot stay at the level of words or feelings, it
must be lived out through action.

To “go and do likewise” means that my faith must be visible in the way I treat
others, especially those in need, even when I disagree with them or find
them difficult to understand. This parable challenges me to ask: Who are the
people I tend to avoid or overlook? Who might be my “neighbor” that I don’t
want to recognize? Loving my neighbor is not optional rather it is essential to
living out the love of God. To inherit eternal life is not only about believing
but about letting that belief transform how I live, how I give, and how I show
mercy. I pray that our God give us eyes to see the needs around us and the
courage to act with mercy. Teach us to love as He love, even when it is
inconvenient. Amen.

Luke 12:49-53
Not Peace but Division
This scripture is difficult to reflect on because it shows a side of Jesus that
feels challenging. I naturally think of Him as the bringer of peace, but here
He says He came not to bring peace, but division. It reminds me that
following Christ is not always easy and comfortable. His message of truth
calls for a decision, and not everyone around me will make the same choice.
I realize that sometimes it is hard for me to stay firm in my faith when I face
people who do not share the same beliefs or values. At times, it even creates
misunderstandings or tension with those I care about. I want to keep
harmony, but Jesus is showing me that loyalty to Him must come before
everything else.
Yet, this passage also encourages me. The fire Jesus speaks about is not just
about conflict, but about purification, burning away what is false and refining
what is true. His own suffering shows me that He knows the weight of
division and rejection. Choosing Him may bring challenges, but it also brings
a deeper kind of life that cannot be taken away. I pray that He will give us the
courage to stay faithful to Him even when it causes misunderstanding or
tension. Strengthen us to endure challenges and remind us that true peace is
found only in You, God. Amen.
