Descriptive text is describes a particular person, place, or thing in detail. It means that
descriptive text is designed especially about a person, a place, or things.

The purpose of descriptive text is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.
Generic Structure of Descriptive Text
Identification: it is aimed at introducing and identifying a specific participant, such as
a person, a thing, a place, an animal, and or an event.
Description: it describes that participant from its characteristics, appearances,
personality, and habits or qualities
Language Features Descriptive Text
Focus on specific participants as the main character (My English teacher, Andini’s cat,
My favorite place).
Use simple present tense
Use linking verbs or relational processes frequently (is, are, has, have, belongs to) to
classify and describe the participant’s appearance or qualities and parts or functions.
Use of descriptive adjectives (strong legs, white hair)
Use action verb (run, walk, cut, etc)

Let me introduce you to my best friend. Her name is Hanni. She is my classmate in Junior
High School. She is thirteen years old.
Description:
Hanni is so pretty. She has an oval face, rounded eyes, pointed nose, and beautiful black long
hair. Her skin color is fair. Also, she has a slim body and is quite tall. She is 155 centimeters
tall.
Hanni really loves to sing and dance. She joins the dance club as her extracurricular activity
at school. She is smart and friendly. She often helps me to do my homework and always
respects the elders. Everyone loves her.
