Introducing computer

System
What is computer?
The computer is an electronic device that converts data into information. Modern
computers are digital and the older computers were analog. In modern
computers two digits combine to make data and in older computers a range of
values made data.

Computers for individual use


Desktop computers:
It is the most common type of computer. We can use it by placing it on the desks
or floor.

Work stations:
These are the specialized computers, optimized for science or graphics and more
powerful than a desktop.

Notebook computers:
These are small portable computers weights between 3 and 8 pounds, it has
about 8.5 by 11 inches screen. It is typically as powerful as a desktop. It can
include a docking station.

Tablet computers:
It is the portable computer. We can input it through a pen. It can run specialized
versions of office products.

Hand held computers:


These are very smart computers. It can be used for personal digital
assistants(PDA), Note taking or contact management and data can also
synchronize with a desktop.

Smart phones:
A smart phone is essentially a powerful, miniaturized computer in the form of a
mobile phone. we can send emails through it, we can call each other and can also
do the web surfing.

Computers for organizations


Network servers:
These are the centralized computers. All other computers are connect from
server. It provide access to network resources. Multiple servers are called server
farms. It is simply a powerful desktop.

Main frames:
This type of computers are used in large organizations. It can handle thousands of
users. Users can access through a terminal

Mini computers:
These are called midrange computers. It has power between mainframe and
desktop. It can handle hundreds of users. It is used in smaller organizations. Users
can access through a terminal.

Super computers:
These are the most powerful computers. It can handle large and complex
calculations. It can process trillions of operations per second. Super computers
are found in research organizations.

Computers in society
Computers at home:
Many homes have multiple computers . Most American homes have internet.
Computers are used for:
1. Business
2. Entertainment
3. Communication
4. Education

Computers in education:
Computers literacy required at all levels.

Computers in small business:


Computers make businesses more profitable. It allows owners to manage their
business.

Computers in industry:
Computers are used to design products. Assembly lines are automated.

Computers in government:
Computers are necessary to track data for population such as: police officers and
tax calculation and collection. Governments were the first computer users.

Computers in health care:


Computers revolutionized health care, new treatments are possible, scheduling of
patients has improved and delivery of medicine is safer.
