Your grade 4 class has been asked to participate in the local art festival after the
holidays. They want to form a band of four and join in the section for indigenous
bands. Any instruments used must be indigenous which are handmade.
Your class wants a variety of different instruments. Thabo can play the flute so he
would like an instrument which he can play by blowing. Tom likes to play his electric
guitar, but he can’t use this instruments. He needs an instrument which he can play
by plucking strings. Thuli loves playing the drums and Nani likes to dance with a
shaker!. Design, draw and make your musical instruments.
Instructions:
• You must make an indigenous musical instrument at home
• Your instrument must be able to make a sound by blowing, plucking shaking or
beating
• Use recycled material to make your instrument.
• Bring your instrument to school on the above date.
Criteria for making instrument:
• Must be an indigenous instrument.
• Use only recycled materials
• It should be a simple instrument that you will be able to draw like a drum, rattle,
flute or a simple string instrument.
• Instrument must be creative and interesting
