• Selecting/designing the right furniture is more than just about its beauty.

• Related with the exterior/interior style or concept and available space

• Several factors to consider


Step 1 – understand your architecture

• Its important to look at the existing architectural elements including ceiling,


columns, windows and other such details.

• if you fail to check the architectural elements, your furniture might not look good
in the space.

3.1 Space measurement – helps you determine the size of your furniture
(Stuffed – spacious)
Tips
• Sectional couches and benches can function as dividers for free space homes.
• Homes with rounded walls should have similar furniture to take up less space and
match with the architecture of the house.
• No furniture should be blocking other attractive features in your room such as the
fireplace and any unique décor that you may have

3.2 Function of space – Helps you select the correct size of the furniture
and the correct product.

• Is it for Kids, visitors ,occasional guest ?etc.….

• Help you decide how much storage you should ideally accommodate in the given
space.

occupying.

A lot to choose from, varied shapes and lines can give you a general form to start with.

You don’t necessarily have to be literal .

Observe things that catches your interest from your day to day activities or objects you
use.

Keep your eyes open to things you see everyday to find new design possibilities
3. Visit a store that sells the kind of furniture you need to design

Take notes on what you do and don’t like

Try out the furniture

Helps you design a piece with a perfect balance between your preferences for functionality
and aesthetic.
Step 3– Design part

Tips

1. Use 2 - 3 strong elements in one piece of furniture.

Avoids cluttering
2. Add asymmetry to your design

Add visual interest , break the norm and keep balance in mind.
3. Consider mixing 2 different materials

Can bring strength, sheen , patter and a whole new character.

Study each material’s functionality or durability and its strengths and weaknesses.
4. Curves or angles

Gives visual comfort ,add energy and elegance


5. Be open for experiments

Consider unusual materials, techniques, tools ….


6. Use non-standard dimensions when appropriate

Can create different looking pieces of furniture with intentionally exaggerated sizes
