Reflection on My Employability Activities
My journey through the Media and Communications program has been a purposeful and
engaging exploration of those skills and experiences vital to a very dynamic career in the
creative industries. This semester, employability activities were multifaceted: from actual work
experience through independent project completion to industry development, all aiming at
cementing career goals and readiness for global media. Reflecting on this growth has helped me
to gain clarity about what I am capable of and the gaps that I will have to bridge to make it in this
competitive media and communications area.
At present, my service as the Trade Show & Event Support Specialist at We-Young
Industrial & Trading in China has proved to be quite transformative. I originally thought the job
merely entailed logistical assistance for B2B events, but it rapidly transformed into my training
ground for public relations, branding, and cross-cultural communication. One of the more
formative things I did was coordinate a very high-impact booth activation with interactive
displays and live product demonstrations. I was then able to blend visual storytelling with
consumer psychology lessons, which bear immediate relevance for any creative work at a fast-
paced platform like TikTok.
My greatest measurable success came when I led a social media campaign from concept
to execution, achieving a 40% increase in engagement across various platforms. However, the
numbers were of secondary importance to the analytical mindset I developed to update the
content strategy in real time, given the platform analytics. This taught me that creativity is not all
that counts in digital messaging; effectiveness must follow an iterative process of design, data
analysis, and redesign. The employability workshops and webinars at PSB Academy have helped
me develop a professional approach to discussing these applicable experiences. As a result of

various résumé-building workshops, I learned to present my accomplishments differently: I went
from describing them as mere tasks to building them as stories of outcomes. Attending a
LinkedIn optimization class also helped polish my online profile and make my experience visible
and interesting for recruiters.
Based on some research I did for CW1, I found out that digital media employers consider
adaptability, cultural literacy, and content innovation as important. These discoveries led me to
reflect on my own soft skills; in fact, I can function well in multilingual and multicultural
settings due to my fluency in English, Chinese, and Thai. I now consider this multilingual
advantage my core strength, which I emphasize in job applications for brands with a global
presence. However, my weaknesses were also revealed throughout the semester. At the start, I
overcommitted to creative processes and underprioritized strategic planning. For example, in the
campaign, I was concentrating mostly on aesthetics and storytelling without fully integrating the
behavioral data of the target demographic. After feedback from my supervisor, I realized this and
started employing audience segmentation tools and engagement heat maps in planning; the
change really paid off in the following campaigns.
My career aspiration upon graduation is to work in PR and digital branding for lifestyle
or technology platforms, whereby storytelling drives engagement. My skill areas needing further
development include advanced media pitching skills and a deeper knowledge of SEO strategies
and paid media. I am aiming at taking short courses in these areas over the next few months via
Coursera and LinkedIn Learning. In summary, this reflection is not a mere recounting of what I
have done, but rather, a blueprint of where I am going. I can say that I have grown from a
tactician into a strategic thinker, and while I am still learning, I am now more deliberate and self-
aware.
