Homogeneous vs. Heterogeneous Mixtures

The document explains the differences between homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures, highlighting that homogeneous mixtures have a uniform composition while heterogeneous mixtures have distinguishable components. It also defines pure substances and provides examples, along with various separation techniques such as filtration, distillation, evaporation, chromatography, and magnetic separation. Each technique is briefly described, emphasizing their roles in separating components of mixtures.

HOMOGENEOUS AND

HETEROGENEOUS
MIXTURES
Arleen & Kenisha :D
Homogeneous
Homogeneous refers to a
substance or mixture that has
the same uniform appearance
and composition throughout. In
a homogeneous mixture, the
components are evenly
distributed and cannot be
easily distinguished from one
another, such as in a solution
where the solute is completely
dissolved in the solvent.
HETEROGENEOUS
MIXTURE

A heterogeneous mixture is a type of mixture

Heterogeneous
where the components are not evenly mixed
and can be easily distinguished from one
another. In this type of mixture, you can see
different parts or materials, like in a salad or a
mixture of sand and water. Each part retains
its own properties and can often be separated
physically.
Pure substances
Pure Substance

In chemistry, a pure substance is a single

substance made of only one type of particle.

Examples
diamond, water, pure sugar, table salt, and baking
soda
Seperation techniques
01 Filteration
Separating solids from liquids using a porous medium (like filter paper) that
allows the liquid to pass through but retains the solid particles.

02 Distillation
A process of purifying a liquid compound by heating it into a vapor that is
then condensed back into a liquid

03
Evaporation
Evaporation is a natural process where a liquid turns into a gas below its
boiling point.

04 Chromatography
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Nulla ullamcorper
nulla et blandit ultrices. Nulla aliquam congue enim. Duis imperdiet
bibendum.

05 Magnetic Seperation
a process that uses magnetic fields to separate magnetic substances from
non-magnetic materials, relying on the different magnetic properties of
components in a mixture.
