What are Alternative Blockchains?

• These are blockchains used for purposes other than digital currencies (like
Bitcoin).
• They use the same technology (distributed ledger, cryptography,
decentralization) but focus on different applications.

Examples of Blockchain Outside Currencies

1. Supply Chain Management
• Tracks goods from production to delivery.
• Improves transparency and reduces fraud.
• Example: Tracking food safety, medicines, or luxury goods.
2. Healthcare
• Stores and shares medical records securely.
• Ensures data privacy and easy access for authorized doctors/patients.
3. Voting Systems
• Used for secure, tamper-proof electronic voting.
• Reduces election fraud and improves trust.
4. Digital Identity
• Creates secure digital IDs for individuals and businesses.
• Helps in KYC (Know Your Customer) and online verification.
5. Smart Contracts
• Self-executing agreements that run automatically when conditions are
met.
• Example: Renting a house or car without a middleman.
6. Intellectual Property & Copyright
• Protects art, music, patents, and digital content from theft.
7. Real Estate & Land Records
• Stores property ownership details in blockchain.
• Reduces forgery and disputes.

Why use Blockchain outside Currencies?

• Transparency – everyone can see verified records.
• Security – hard to hack or tamper.
• Decentralization – no single authority controls it.
• Efficiency – faster processes, fewer intermediaries.

Blockchain in IoT (Internet of Things):

What is IoT?
• IoT is a network of connected devices (sensors, appliances, vehicles,
machines) that communicate and share data over the internet.

Role of Blockchain in IoT

Blockchain helps make IoT systems more secure, transparent, and efficient.

How Blockchain Benefits IoT

1. Security
• Protects IoT devices from hacking.
• Uses cryptography to ensure data integrity.
2. Decentralization
• Removes the need for a central server.
• Devices can communicate directly using blockchain.
3. Transparency
• Every transaction/device interaction is recorded on the blockchain.
• All participants can verify it.
4. Automation with Smart Contracts
• IoT devices can perform actions automatically when conditions are met.
• Example: Smart locks that open only after payment is confirmed on
blockchain.
5. Data Integrity
• Data from IoT devices is stored in an immutable ledger.
• Prevents tampering of sensor readings or logs.

Applications of Blockchain in IoT

• Smart homes and cities – secure communication between devices.
• Supply chain tracking – monitor products in real time.
• Healthcare – secure patient data from wearable devices.
• Automotive – self-driving cars sharing data safely.
• Energy management – smart meters and decentralized energy trading.
