Comprehensive Geometry Notes Guide

The document provides extended notes on geometry, covering 2D shapes like triangles, circles, and trapeziums, as well as 3D shapes such as cubes, cylinders, and spheres, including their area and volume formulas. It discusses angles in triangles, circle theorems, and coordinate geometry concepts like gradients and midpoints. Additionally, it outlines transformations including translation, rotation, reflection, and enlargement.

Geometry – Extended Notes

Geometry Notes (Extended)

1. **2D Shapes**
- Triangle: A = ½ × b × h. Types include equilateral (3 equal sides), isosceles (2 equal sides), and
scalene (no equal sides).
- Circle: C = 2πr, A = πr².
- Trapezium: A = ½ × (sum of parallel sides) × height.
- Parallelogram: A = base × height.

2. **3D Shapes**
- Cube: V = a³, SA = 6a².
- Cuboid: V = l × b × h, SA = 2(lb + bh + hl).
- Cylinder: V = πr²h, SA = 2πr(h + r).
- Sphere: V = (4/3)πr³, SA = 4πr².
- Cone: V = (1/3)πr²h, SA = πr(r + l), where l = slant height.

3. **Angles and Triangles**

- Angles in a triangle add to 180°.
- Exterior angle = sum of opposite interior angles.
- Right-angled triangles follow Pythagoras’ Theorem.
- For any triangle: area = ½ab sin C.

4. **Circle Theorems**
- Angle at the centre = 2 × angle at the circumference.
- Angles in the same segment are equal.
- Tangent is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact.

5. **Coordinate Geometry (within Geometry)**

Find the gradient, midpoints, and area of shapes on a coordinate plane.

6. **Transformations**
- Translation: Slides a shape.
- Rotation: Turns a shape around a point.
- Reflection: Flips over a line.
- Enlargement: Resizes a shape about a centre with a scale factor.
