AIM
To measure three main traits of the individual subject’s personality i.e.,
Sociability, Self Confidence and Ambitious.
INTRODUCTION
Sentence completion test (SCT) is a projective test used widely by clinicians and
psychologists to explore the needs, inner conflicts, fantasies, attitudes, aspirations, adjustment
difficulties, and sexual abuse in the children and adolescents. Sentence completion tests can
be described as semi-structured projective technique. They provide respondents with
beginnings of sentences and the respondents are asked to complete the sentences in ways that
are meaningful to them. Sentence Completion tests typically provide respondents with
beginnings of sentences, referred to as “stems” and respondents then compete the sentences
in ways that are meaningful to them. The responses are believed to provide indications of
attitudes, beliefs, motivations or other mental states.
Hermann Ebbinghaus (1897) is generally credited with developing the first sentence
completion test used as a part of an intelligence test. In recent decades, sentence completion
tests have increased in usage, because they are easy to develop and easy to administrate. The
uses of sentence completion tests include personality analysis, clinical applications, attitude
assessment, achievement motivation, and measurement of other constructs. They are used in
several disciplines, including psychology, management, education, and marketing. Sentence
completion measures have also been incorporated into non-projective applications, such
as intelligence tests, language comprehension, and cognitive development tests.
In the sentence completion test, three personality traits are assessed. i.e.., Sociability, Self-
confidence, Ambitious.
Brief characteristics of the traits :
Sociability : Sociability traits are characteristics people possess that encourage effective
relationships. Many individuals naturally display sociability traits, such as a friendly and
outgoing attitude, self-control, adaptability, integrity and team spirit. Other people adopt
sociability skills over time.
Self-Confidence : Self-confidence is an attitude about skills and abilities. It means one accept
and trust oneself and have a sense of control in their life. Individuals know their strengths and
weakness well, and have a positive view of themselves. These people set realistic
expectations and goals, communicate assertively, and can handle criticism. :
Ambitious : An ambitious person is someone always striving to reach a goal. Through hard
work, dedication and perseverance — an ambitious person doesn't give up. They push
forward and are determined to succeed. The characteristics of ambition consist of goals,
achievement motivation, self-attitudes, attitudes towards others, attitudes towards
professional activities, self-regulation, and cognitive characteristics.
DESCRIPTION OF THE TEST.
Various Sentence Completion Tests are available and can be used in the practicum. One of
them is the Sentence Completion Test developed by L. N. Dubey and Archana Dubey. In this
test 50 incomplete sentences are there and the task of the subject to complete it and there is
no time limit for the test.

PROCEDURE AND ADMINISTRATION
Prepartion : The subject was requested to sit comfortably and to follow
the instructions attentively. The Sentence Completion Test booklet was
presented to the subject and pencil was also given to him/her.
Rapport : Rapport was established with the subject and the task was
explained to her.
Instructions : In the Sentence Completion Test the instructions are
simple. The subjects are to be told that is a simple sentence completion
test. The test consists of 50 incomplete sentences In this test incomplete
sentence are given, and they have to complete the incomplete sentences
as quickly as possible with the first thought that comes in their mind.
They are expected to write the sentences that carry full meaning. There
is no time limit in this test, but the subjects should be asked to complete
test as quickly as they can. No sentence is to be left incomplete.
Precautions :
The instructions should be clear.
The subject should not be too slow or fast to complete the task.
After the completion of the test, it should be checked properly that
whether there is any omission or not.
SCORING
Every sentence can be placed into three categories: Positive (2 marks
awarded), negative (1 mark awarded), and neutral (0 marks awarded).
The serial number of statements under each of the three dimensions is
provided in the manual along with the interpretation of the raw scores.
INTERPRETATION
From the results, it is noted that subject got a raw score of 23 it indicates
she is average in that trait called Sociability. For the trait Self confidence
she got the raw score of 33 and corresponding z score is….. Further more
she got the raw score of 36 which indicates extremely high and z score is
……for Ambitious. The overall raw score is 77 with D grade shows she
may be an average amicable personality.
