Introduction of IELTS Writing Task 1
• The goal of IELTS Task 1 is to describe and summarize visual
data.
• To evaluates the candidate’s ability to report information
accurately and clearly in English.
• You are advised to spend 20 minutes and atleast 150 words.
 A response shorter than 150 words will be penalized, and no words limit.

Types of Visual Data:
• Graphs and charts: Line graphs, bar charts, pie charts.

• Tables: Showing numerical information.

• Diagrams: Processes or flowcharts.

• Maps: Comparing changes over time or locations.

• Mixed data: A combination of two types, e.g., a bar chart and a table.

Structure of the Task 1 Response
A clear four-part structure is recommended:
• Introduction: Paraphrase the task prompt and
introduce the graph/chart.
• Overview: Provide a summary of the main trends or
features (the "big picture").
• Detail paragraph 1: Explain the key details, patterns, or
comparisons.
• Detail paragraph 2 : Expand on other important
features or patterns.
Overview is the most important part of the response, as it
shows that you can summarize the main trends.

Key elements of task 1 graph/chart/table

Break down the three key elements of an introduction:

• Type of Data: Is it a line graph, bar chart, pie chart, table, etc.?

• Units of Measurement: Are the figures in percentages, millions, or any other

specific units?

• Time Period: Does the graph cover a particular range of years or months?

• Grammar Structure:

With time period => Simple Past

Without time period => Simple Present

Pay attention not to:

•Giving opinions or interpretations of the data (e.g., why the


trends happened).
•Describing every number: Instead, focus on general trends and
important data.
•Copying the task prompt exactly: Always paraphrase.

How Task 1 different from Task 2?
• Focus: Task 1 requires describing data; Task 2 is about
arguing or discussing an opinion.
• Word count: Task 1 (150 words) is shorter than Task 2 (250
words).
• Timing: Spend less time on Task 1 (20 minutes) compared to
Task 2 (40 minutes).

Cách phát âm đuôi "ed" trong tiếng Anh có 3 quy tắc chính, tùy
thuộc vào âm cuối của động từ gốc. Đây là quy tắc áp dụng cho các
động từ ở thì quá khứ đơn và quá khứ phân từ, hoặc khi dùng cho
tính từ kết thúc bằng "ed".
1. /t/ – Phát âm là /t/
•Khi động từ gốc kết thúc bằng âm vô thanh (unvoiced sound), tức
là các âm không rung ở cổ họng: /k/, /p/, /s/, /ʃ/ (sh), /tʃ/ (ch),
/f/.
•Ví dụ:
• Worked → /wɜːrkt/
• Stopped → /stɒpt/
• Laughed → /læft/
• Watched → /wɒtʃt/
2. /d/ – Phát âm là /d/
•Khi động từ gốc kết thúc bằng âm hữu thanh (voiced sound), tức là
các âm có rung ở cổ họng: /b/, /g/, /v/, /z/, /ʒ/ (như trong
"vision"), /dʒ/ (như trong "judge"), các nguyên âm và hầu hết các
âm khác ngoại trừ /t/ và /d/.
•Ví dụ:

3. /ɪd/ – Phát âm là /ɪd/
•Khi động từ gốc kết thúc bằng âm /t/ hoặc /d/, thêm "ed" vào thì
phát âm thành một âm riêng /ɪd/ (hoặc đôi khi là /əd/).
•Ví dụ:
• Wanted → /ˈwɒntɪd/

• Started → /ˈstɑːtɪd/
