1. Two shunt generators operating in parallel deliver a total current of 250A. One of the generators
is rated 50kW and the other 100kW. The voltage ratings of both machines are 500V and have
regulations of 6% and 4% respectively. Assuming linear characteristics, determine: a) The
current delivered by each machine, b) terminal voltage
2. A 75KW shunt Dc generator is operated at 230v. The stray losses are 1810W, and shunt field
circuit draws 5.35A. The armature circuit has a resistance of 0.035Ω and total brush drop is 2.2V.
Draw the circuit diagram and calculate:
a) E.m.f generated b) Total loss c) Input power d) Efficiency at rated load.
3. A long-shunt compound generator delivers a load current of 50A at 500V and has armature, series
field and shunt field resistances of 0.05Ω, 0.03Ω and 250Ω respectively calculate the generated
voltage and armature current. Allow 1v per brush for contact drop
4. A shunt generator supplies 96A at a terminal voltage of 200 volts. The armature and shunt field
resistance are 0.1Ω and 50 Ω respectively. The iron and frictional losses are 2500W.

5. A separately excited D.C generator has armature circuit resistance of 0.1Ω and the total brush-
drop is 2V. When running at 1000 r.p.m, it delivers a current of 100A at 250V to a load of constant
resistance. If the generator speed drop to 700r.p.m with field current unaltered, find
a) The current delivered to load and
b) With what load resistance will the current be 100A,at 700r.p.m.
6. A d.c shunt motor takes an armature current of 110A at [Link] armature circuit resistance is
0.2Ω.The machine has 6-poles and the armature is lap-connected with 864 conductors. The flux
per pole is 0.05Wb.
Calculate
i) The speed
ii) The gross torque developed by the armature.
7. A 6-pole, 230-V, 60HZ Star-Connected, 3-Phase induction motor has the following
parameters on a per-phase basis: 𝑅1 = 0.5 Ω, 𝑅2 = 0.25 Ω, 𝑋1 = 0.75 Ω, 𝑋2 = 0.5 Ω, 𝑋𝑚 = 100 Ω, and 𝑅𝑐 =
500 Ω. The friction and windage loss is 150 W. For a rated slip of 2.5%, find the motor:
(a) Speed. (b) Stator current (c) Power factor

8. A 480V, 60 Hz, 6-pole, three-phase, delta-connected induction motor has the following
parameters: R1=0.461 Ω, R2=0.258 Ω, X1=0.507 Ω, X2=0.309 Ω, Xm =30.74 Ω
Rotational losses are 2450W. The motor drives a mechanical load at a speed of 1170 rpm. Calculate
the following

9. A 4 –pole, 408V, 3ϕ, 60Hz, 10hp, star connected SCIM has the following characteristics
R1= 0.4Ω, X1= 0.35Ω, R2’= 0.14Ω, X2’= 0.35Ω, Xm = 16Ω
Rotational losses are 360W. Draw the equivalent circuit showing the given parameters, and at a
motor speed of 1746rpm, calculate:

10.A 3ϕ, 230 V, 30hp, 60Hz, 6-pole IM is operating with a shaft load that requires 21.3KW to
cross the air gap to the rotor. Rotor copper loss is 1.05kw, and rotational losses are 300W.
Determine
a) Shaft speed b) Power developed c) Developed Torque d) Shaft Torque
11. A 4-pole, 3 phases, 60Hz, 440V induction motor has a full load slip of 0.05.
i) What is the speed of the rotating stator field? Determine the frequency of the rotor current
ii) When the output power of the motor is 90hp at a speed of 1732rpm, total rotational losses are
10,100W, total copper losses for both stator and rotor is 3700W. The motor has a power factor
of 0.8 under this condition. Determine:

12. A 208-V, 50-Hz, 12-pole, Y-connected, 3ϕ IM has a stator impedance of 0.1 + j0.3Ω and a
rotor impedance of 0.06 + j0.8 Ω at standstill. The core-loss resistance is 150 Ω, and the
magnetization reactance is 750 Ω. The rotational loss is 2 kW. When the motor operates at its
full-load slip of 5%, Determine
