Reflection

In my TED Talk, I consciously used several verbal and non-verbal cues


to engage the audience and enhance my message. By maintaining an open
and confident posture, I projected authority and credibility, making it easier
for the audience to trust and believe in my ideas. My facial expressions
mirrored the tone of the message, where I smiled during majority of the talk,
introducing it as light and thus more likely to be received positively. I
stressed some key words and phrases to emphasize important points,
ensuring that my core message stood out and resonated with the audience.
Varying my tone, switching between serious and light tones, allowed me to
convey emotion effectively and keep the talk dynamic. Speaking at a
controlled pace, with some pauses yet keeping the pace quick keeping in
mind time constraints. Lastly, clear and articulate speech was essential for
ensuring the audience could easily follow and understand my ideas,
particularly when explaining complex concepts. Proper enunciation
prevented any misunderstandings, making my message clearer.

These communication skills will play a significant role in advancing my


career by enhancing my ability to engage, influence, and collaborate with
others. Maintaining a confident posture and making consistent eye contact
will help me establish credibility and build trust with colleagues, clients, and
stakeholders. The ability to vary my tone and emphasize key points will
enable me to communicate in a more compelling way and ensure that my
ideas are both understood and remembered. Pausing and controlling my
pacing will allow me to effectively manage the flow of information, giving
others time to absorb and respond thoughtfully. As I progress in my career,
these skills will not only improve my effectiveness in formal presentations
but also enhance my day-to-day interactions, helping me navigate complex
conversations, possibly lead teams or groups and contribute more effectively
to my own/my organization’s goals.

Conducting a TED-style talk taught me a great deal about the art of


communication. One of the key lessons I learned is how important it is to
connect with the audience, not just through words, but through body
language, tone, and pacing. I realized that a confident posture and eye
contact (which I noticed I lack in the video) can make a huge difference in
establishing trust and credibility. Additionally, I found that varying my tone
and pausing at the right moments helped keep the audience engaged and
gave them time to process key points, after watching the video back.
Another important takeaway was the value of clarity. I had to be mindful of
how I expressed ideas, making sure to speak clearly and with purpose,
especially when addressing complex topics. Overall, I learned that effective
communication is about more than just delivering information—it's about
creating an experience for the audience, one that is engaging, memorable,
and impactful.
